The opportunity
ASIO technical teams undertake collection and capability development to support the Organisations investigations.
With the rapid rate of technology development, technical staff are required to maintain existing collection systems as well as investigate new and novel approaches to ensure ongoing availability.
Teams work across a broad technical collection group where teamwork and good communication is imperative.
In your team, you will need to rapidly understand and utilise a range of collection capabilities enabling you to innovate and resolve complex pre-conditions and constraints to maintain and enhance your technologies
A merit pool may be created to fill future vacancies which have the same or similar requirements to this position.
This merit pool will be valid for up to 18 months
This role may attract an additional technical skills allowance of up to 10% of base salary
Role responsibilities
You will be responsible for gathering information from online systems to support investigations.
Your responsibilities will include:
Assisting with and carrying out online investigations.Contributing to the development of new technologies to sustain and enhance our capabilities.
This involves researching specific target environments to inform your software development and testing of appropriate collection modules.Sharing expertise with partners to improve our collective ability to gather and analyse information.Troubleshooting and resolving technical issues.Maintaining and improving systems and infrastructure.Providing training and guidance to team members.Collaborating with various teams to understand technical requirements and provide solutions.Identifying innovative solutions to improve existing systems and processes.Ensuring compliance with security policies and industry regulations.
What you will bring
We invite applications from people with the following attributes:
Bachelor or postgraduate degree in information technology, computer science, cyber security or related disciplines.Technical proficiency in cyber security and/or information technology concepts.Ethical hacking, vulnerability research and/or penetration testing.Software engineering and development, testing, integration and/or deployment.
Proficiency in one or more of the following programming/scripting languages is highly desirable but not essential: Python, PowerShell, JavaScript, Bash, Node.js.System, network and storage administration, design and/or architecture including cross-domain solutions and concepts.Data flow tools such as Ni-Fi and query languages such as SQL and KQL.Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills demonstrating proficiency to engage with technical and non-technical teams.Ability to use your technical skills to innovate and advance operational technology capability development.
In addition to the above, at the ITE1/2 (APS5/6) level you will have significant experience in your trade with a curiosity to learn from subject matter experts
In addition to the above, at the SITEC (EL1) level you will demonstrate experience in any of the above fields with a passion to teach and mentor junior staff.

Employment is under the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation Act 1979.
Conditions of service are similar to those applying in the Australian Public Service.
