Natural Biotech Pty Ltd is a South Australia-based company involved in the research and development of natural biotech products. The company is newly established in South Australia through overseas investors. The current product is a type of white kidney extract, a healthy supplementary product that contains a natural amylase inhibitor, which has been proven to effectively control weight and adjust post-meal blood sugar.
The early stages of research and IP were registered in China; however, the research and product development are expanding into the Australian market. The company will also be expanding the research of a wide range of similar natural biotech healthy supplement products in the future in Australia. The company has reached a commercial research agreement with a South Australian university and is currently negotiating production with local pharmaceutical firms.
This role is key to ensuring the company's intellectual property rights are maintained, that all products meet eligibility requirements for patents (including functionality, safety, and originality), and that patents are processed.
The IP and Patents Officer will be responsible for the preparation of all company patent applications, including checking them to ensure they meet all legal requirements and patent standards to enable approval.
This role requires conducting detailed research into existing patents using a variety of sources, including technical documents and computer databases. Furthermore, the IP and Patents Officer conducts technical analysis of applications and writes reports based on their assessments.
This role will increase productivity, inspire and motivate team members, and optimize the company's market share. The IP and Patents Officer will be someone creative, analytical, detail-oriented, self-organizing, and possess excellent communication skills. Interstate and overseas travel will be necessary.
Responsibilities: Ensure the company's IP, product research outcomes, and patents are protected and correctly registered.Liaison with company overseas stakeholders to obtain necessary information and transfer IP registration to Australia.Review company applications to determine whether the invention(s) claimed should be granted a patent, undertaking manual searches of previous publications to establish that company inventions are patentable.Use online technical databases to consider technical issues related to the company's inventions.Publish the applications together with search results under the company's name.Produce search reports and send these reports to external patent lawyers and registration bodies for patent or IP registration for company products and inventions.Liaise with external patent lawyers to prevent and resolve possible disputes with potential competitors or similar products.Draft legal analysis reports for company senior managers to identify and analyze all issues during various stages of the patent application process.Participate in negotiation meetings with patent lawyers to assess legal compliance of inventions.Maintain the quality, productivity, and timely processing of company patent applications.Input for company product's TGA registration procedure or with manufacturing firms.Key Qualifications, Experience and Attributes: The IP and Patents Officer role demands a formal bachelor degree in scientific, technical, or engineering fields or three to five years of experience. The successful candidates for this role will be expected to have the following skills and qualifications:
