About the Role: The Information Systems Support Officer is responsible for providing professional expertise and technical support in the establishment, maintenance, and management of information systems on the State's flora and related biodiversity data assets. The position provides assistance to Botanic Gardens and State Herbarium (BGSH) staff and external researchers in the capture, retrieval, analysis, interpretation, and presentation of data. A key function of the role will be to ensure that data sets are maintained with taxonomic integrity and accuracy throughout their data lifecycle. The appointee will act as a key member of a team that liaises with other Department for Environment and Water (DEW) teams, external stakeholders, data users, and research partners. The focus of the data to be shared are authoritative information curated by BGSH that are delivered to State, regional, and national repositories. The current role will focus on renewing the delivery of the online Flora of South Australia and other public-facing biodiversity data resources.

Essential Qualifications:
Degree in Biological Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Natural Resource Management, or equivalent relevant to the position.
Desirable Qualifications:
Formal training or practical experience in botanical sciences with herbarium or collections based experience.
Expertise in data management, curation of data sets, data quality control, and maintenance. Some experience in database development and maintenance of herbarium data systems may also be an advantage.
Special Conditions: May be required to work outside of the normal work hours including on weekends.May be required to undertake intrastate/interstate travel.This role has been designated as a Position of Trust pursuant to the standards required in the Australian Government Protective Security Policy Framework. PO2, $88,255 min - $97,667 max p.a.

Sound understanding of collections-based data management (preferably natural history collections) including an awareness of requirements for handling diverse data sources (including images or other media).Experience in the development, evaluation, analysis, solution design, and testing of data management systems (e.g. databases) for the capture and delivery of biological data, preferably herbarium data.Ability to handle diverse sources of external data inputs and translate them to a range of data formats.Familiarity with data standards (e.g. https://www.tdwg.org) and their application for end-user data needs, such as the delivery of herbarium data directly to online platforms.Ability to implement herbarium (or equivalent) data compilation supporting the delivery of authoritative knowledge to published or public-facing online systems.The Department for Environment and Water is committed to building a diverse and inclusive workplace.
