Located only 30 minutes from Newcastle, Maitland Private maintains a community-focused feel while being able to deliver high-quality health services to the Maitland and Hunter Valley regions. The hospital encompasses 157 beds, 6 operating theatres, 10 bed ICU, with associated rehabilitation, medical and surgical Wards. Our services include two major medical centres, a dedicated mental health unit, an on-site cancer centre including radiation oncology, radiology practice and pathology laboratory.

Your new role as Infection Control Coordinator: We are seeking a dynamic and innovative Registered Nurse to join the hospitals clinical leadership team in the Infection Control Coordinator role. The Infection Control Coordinator is responsible for providing professional and expert support and clinical Infection Prevention guidance to all areas of Maitland Private Hospital. This will be achieved through coordinating and managing the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of Infection Control prevention practices, policies and standards to ensure positive clinical outcomes and promote and support Infection Prevention learning development.
The Infection Control Coordinator will achieve exceptional infection control standards of care throughout the hospital by working with the multidisciplinary team, HICMR, participating in relevant committees, collecting and collating all relevant data and Key Performance Indicators, and Infection Control Clinical Indicators. They will implement infection control national standards, be a standard 3 lead (NSQHS), relevant corporate and local guidelines and policies, hand hygiene, antimicrobial stewardship, relevant audits, immunisation strategies, staff health and infection control quality improvement programs to ensure best practice and optimal consumer outcomes.
About you: The ideal candidate will promote and role model patient-centered care and infection control best practice to facilitate the hospital's strategic plans to sustainably grow and enhance the clinical care of our patients and staff. Specifically, the Infection Control Coordinator will display the key attributes of clinical leadership including:
Creating and leading infection control best practice, creation innovationAdvising on high-risk infection control principles – example of COVID management and Anti-Microbial StewardshipInformation management of infection control evidence and dataReporting monthly dataClinical leadership, mentoring/coaching/educatingContributing to the Patient Safety / Quality & RiskCurrent Working with Children Check and Police Check.Current unrestricted AHPRA Registration as a Registered Nurse (Division 1), GeneralRelevant post graduate qualifications in Clinical Nursing (e.g. Perioperative, Critical Care Nursing) / Infection Control or working towardsMinimum 3 years' post grad experience working within an acute health care settingDemonstrated commitment to professional developmentDemonstrated excellence in collaborative written and verbal communicationHigh attention to detail and ability to create, interpret and present dataSound understanding of clinical governance as relevant to infection control and hospital managementStrong leadership and mentoring skillsDemonstrated experience in developing and implementing quality improvement initiatives, clinical policies and accreditation and audit programsComputer literacy in relevant hospital programsImmunisation evidence (including full COVID vaccination) and serology report.Previous experience in Infection Control CoordinationPost Graduate Qualifications in infection Control or willingness to undertakePrevious experience and/or qualifications in immunisation and staff healthHealthe Care is an equal opportunity employer.
