About the Role The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking an Industry Supervisor to provide a critical role within Corrections Victoria.
Industry Supervisors are team leaders in the prison environment.
The roles require leadership, maturity, sound judgement and confidence in decision making, with developed capabilities to coach, mentor and motivate staff and people in custody.
With highly developed communication and negotiation skills, the Industry Supervisor leads and manages industry staff to achieve program and service outcomes in a multidisciplinary team and rehabilitative environment.
In a vocational training environment, the Industry Supervisor will support Industry Officers to coach, mentor and motivate people in custody, placing emphasis on individual offender management practices with a view to upskill and train as positive rehabilitation outcomes.
As some of the Prison Industries operate 7 days a week, Industry Supervisors may be required to work across a 7-day roster.
Some of your duties will include:
Supervise staff and people in custody to ensure achievement of operational aims of the industry.
These include commercial production targets and customer expectations, ordering and maintaining control of stock, materials, financial records and providing an industry model-workplace training environment.Effectively manage all work areas to ensure the safety and security of people in custody, staff and visitors.
This includes appropriate levels of surveillance and interaction within the facility, and monitoring staff and people in custody for compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety, and security procedures.Deliver performance management targets and undertake professional development as required to enhance the role as part of a staff team, with emphasis on following industry requirements for OH&S, quality assurance, monitoring, recording and record keeping systems of prison industry functional areas and recommending improvements where necessary.About you To be successful in this role, you will have:
Metal /Textiles / Warehouse skills and experience (desirable)Demonstrated commitment to working with staff, prisoners and service providers in the delivery of an integrated, whole of Justice approach to reducing re-offending (preferred).Demonstrated experience and skill in the effective management of an Industry/ business (preferred).Demonstrated experience on LEAN and continuous improvement providing an industry model workplace training environment (desirable).Good Computer Skills Working knowledge of departmental computer and data systems and Microsoft Office Suite (preferred).Qualifications Appropriate qualifications and/or experience in Metal /Textiles / Warehouse skills and experience (desirable)An appropriate trade qualification and/or demonstrated experience in a relevant trade to an existing Langi Kal Kal industry (desirable).Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (desirable).Completion of (or willing to undertake) Prison Pre-Service Training.How to Apply The successful candidate will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (NCCHC) and misconduct screening.
