The West Moreton Health (WMH) Indigenous Hospital Liaison Service provides support and assistance to First Nations patients, families and communities across all WMH facilities.Temporary Full-time opportunity for up to 6 months.The Indigenous Hospital Liaison Officer – Men's Health role provides direct support and assistance to both clinicians and First Nations patients, families and communities across the West Moreton region. The position is responsible for the delivery of culturally appropriate health care to First Nations Men while in-patients, including supporting accessible and equitable health outcomes, in the context of meeting individual needs.The role includes facilitating a seamless transition between service providers, on behalf of and in consultation with First Nations peoples. The role provides information and resources that enhance the ability of First Nations patients to make appropriate health care choices and navigate through the complex health care arena.About youOur ideal candidate will be someone who can demonstrate the following:Proven ability to work effectively with First Nations peoples (including patients, carers and communities) within a health-related context and having a clear understanding of contemporary First Nations cultures, protocols and health-related procedures.Proven ability to communicate with individuals sensitively and appropriately from diverse cultural backgrounds while advocating on behalf of First Nations peoples, particularly within a complex health care environment.Proven ability to communicate effectively (both written and verbally), including preparing complex reports, and responding directly to concerns of patients, carers and family members in an appropriate manner.Sound knowledge of relevant I.T. systems for both patient-specific information and relevant statistical data, inclusive of collection, collation and reporting towards improving First Nations health outcomes.Ability to actively participate in a working environment supporting quality human resource management practices including employment equity, anti-discrimination, occupational health and safety, and ethical behaviour.West Moreton Health is one of the most rapidly evolving health services in the southeast corner, with community growth expected to almost double to more than 588,000 by 2036.
