The role will provide technical support, performing diagnostic tests requested by the duty pathologist for the Veterinary Pathobiology group. The successful applicant will ideally have a Bachelor of Applied Science degree or equivalent, preferably with histology discipline study major and experience in a diagnostic pathology laboratory. The incumbent will need to have demonstrated experience of routine histology skills including cut-up, tissue processing, paraffin sectioning, and H&E staining. An understanding of NATA/ISO accreditation, quality control, and operating within a laboratory information management system (LIMS) is also required. This position is a junior position and will receive significant training in histopathology techniques, LIMS data entry, and other aspects of diagnostic laboratory technologies such as support of the ANQAP quality systems. The successful applicant will work effectively as a member of a team, answering to the senior histology technician and the senior veterinary pathologist. The successful applicant will enjoy flexible working arrangements and will receive training to undertake a wide variety of work across the veterinary laboratory diagnostic service. Laboratory hours are between 8am and 5pm Monday to Friday.
Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications
A Bachelor of Applied Science degree or equivalent is desirable. Experience in a veterinary or medical diagnostics laboratory working in histology or anatomical pathology. Equivalent experience from a research laboratory will also be considered. Demonstrated experience in routine histology skills, including cut-up, tissue processing, paraffin sectioning, and H&E staining suitable for diagnostic examination by a pathologist. Experience in working within a quality system and knowledge of NATA/ISO accreditation and quality control. Experience in working with a computerized LIMS system data entry. This is a fixed term position available for a period of 2 Years. The work location for this position is AgriBio Laboratory Bundoora.
