Employee rewards & discount platform Milestone Infrastructure are looking for a Highways Supervisor to support the Area Manager in the successful delivery of the Suffolk Highways contract. As a Highways Supervisor, you will be part of our Operations Team who are responsible for delivering a broad range of highways maintenance activities including patching, ironworks, drainage works, safety defects, and also the Winter & Emergency service.
The role requires a positive working relationship with the client, the contract team, the wider Milestone team, the supply chain, and all other stakeholders. As a Highways Supervisor your duties and responsibilities will be: Delivering the services in line with the contract requirements and to the satisfaction of the client and their customers.Ensure all work allocated is appropriately programmed, planned, supervised, and executed in accordance with specifications, drawings, dimensions, and within agreed commercial limits. This includes compliance with TMA notifications for all works and ensuring compliance with the Red Book Code of Practice for Roadworks.Continual focus on operational gross margins of all work that you are delivering, from the pre-works planning stage to on-site supervision. Through effective management, you will always get the best from your teams. You will be empowered to take corrective action at any stage to ensure the best possible outcome.Responsible for the day-to-day Health & Safety of directly employed staff and Supply Chain Partners.Support the implementation of MiLife within the Depot.Ensure all work carried out is in accordance with local operational procedures and Milestone policies by ensuring all work instructions have target cost/budget estimates and that any changes to work requests are formally recorded.Ensure completion dates are entered accurately and in a timely way immediately after completion for all works through the Depot.Agree, set, and monitor performance objectives in terms of time, cost, safety, and quality programme.Provide training, development, and encouragement to staff and operatives to ensure all works are resourced with sufficiently competent and motivated resources for the role expected of them.Ensure a regular timetable of internal communication with staff and operatives for which you are responsible.Deliver regular toolbox talks and safety briefings to site staff and ensure driver records/walk round checks and recording of HAV's are undertaken and accurately maintained.Effectively manage all vehicles and plant used in the depot. Closely monitor if plant is required and its condition and that it is used to full potential.Actively promote continuous improvement within the depot.Provide support in the development and mentoring of the apprentices.Partake in Emergency and Winter Maintenance call-out rotas.Resource appropriate and adequate internal and Supply Chain resources to deliver the workload in a safe, efficient, and profitable manner.Work with the Schedulers to ensure crews have sufficient workloads programmed to maximize outputs.Liaise with the Transport Manager to ensure vehicles are available and in safe working order.Approve operative timesheets.Order necessary materials, tools, and consumables for the crews.Carry out thorough investigations following incidents.Essential skills & Experience: Experience in construction delivery and workforce supervision.Commercially driven to capture working cost efficiencies, cost control, and saving money wherever possible for the mutual benefit of the client and MIL.Experience within the highway maintenance industry would be desirable, along with CSCS, NRSWA, and SSSTS/SMSTS certifications.Effective team management, leadership, motivational, and influencing skills to get the best from everyone.Excellent customer skills and the ability to demonstrate influencing in all situations.Good general IT skills are essential, and ideally, you'll be proficient in Microsoft Office products.The ability to drive excellent relationships with contacts at all levels – from the client to colleagues and contacts across the wider Milestone and M Group Services.The ability to remain flexible in your approach to the role while embracing change and helping to drive that change through the wider teams and into the delivery.About The Company: At Milestone, we embrace diversity, opening a rich potential for new ways of thinking and helping us to build successful and winning teams.
