The opportunityAssist field operations at our Myall Vale site to support researchContribute to and add value to Australia's cotton industryJoin CSIRO – Australia's National Science & Innovation AgencyWe have an opportunity for a Heavy Plant and Machinery Operator to contribute to the Cotton Research Unit based at Myall Vale, near Narrabri.
Narrabri is in the heart of a rich agricultural area including irrigated and dryland cropping.
The Cotton Research Unit is based at the Australian Cotton Research Institute, a large research facility owned by NSW DPI.
CSIRO is involved in development of elite cotton varieties and improving crop management to ensure the international competitiveness of the Australian cotton industry.
At the site, CSIRO has a range of agricultural plant and equipment, including tractors, sowing and tillage equipment, cotton picking equipment, spray rigs and cotton gins.
In this role, you'll transport and operate heavy plant machinery associated with cotton breeding operations.
You will also contribute to the overall research program by assisting with field operations both at Myall Vale and other sites as required.

Your duties will include:Operating research equipment and agricultural machinery (tractors, planters, spraying equipment, trucks and cotton pickers) for sowing and harvesting of field experiments at Myall Vale and other remote locations.Willingness and ability to travel to field sites and remote locations at short notice and for extended periods of time.Providing support to all other cotton breeding activities as required including field trial preparation, field trial maintenance, and post-harvest sample processing.Working as part of a multi-disciplinary, regionally dispersed research team, to carry out tasks under limited direction in support of scientific research.Following best practices in Health, Safety and Environment procedures.Other duties as directed.Location: Myall Vale (near Narrabri), NSW
Salary: AU$73k- AU$93k pa plus 15.4% superannuation

To be considered you will need:Current driver's licence (C) and current MR or HR licence (with the ability to obtain a HC licence in 3 months).Demonstrated experience in the operation of agricultural machinery, specifically focusing on cotton production.The ability to lift, bend, walk and undertake repetitive motions and the ability to undertake manual handling and operate equipment safely in accordance with Health and Safety Procedures.The ability & willingness to gain new skills, contribute and use novel ideas and practices in support of scientific investigations.Proven ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary, regionally dispersed research team and carry out tasks successfully under general direction.For full details about this role please review the Position Description.
