This position includes a teaching load of up to 0.4 FTE in the successful applicant's subject area.While a permanent role at the College, the Head of Middle School position is a tenured position for one year.Has a teaching component equivalent to 0.6 FTE or 15 periods per week.The position attracts an allowance in line with College responsibility allowances.Hold relevant qualifications and certifications including a four-year tertiary qualification in education and a current VIT registration.Be an experienced leader adept at leading, coaching and motivating a team to succeed.Have exceptional communication and relationship management skills that lead to strong, respectful and sustainable relationships being formed across all key stakeholders including young people and families from different economic, social and cultural backgrounds.Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident only.The successful applicant will be:able to provide leadership and be an effective role model for staff, students and the wider school community.have a knowledge of curriculum and social issues specific to middle school students in Years 7, 8 and 9.be the first point of contact for student compliance issues (behaviour, attendance, uniform) and escalate any concerns to the Principal Team where appropriate.able to develop a positive relationship with all Middle School Students and be a point of contact for any concerns that may arise.able to liaise with parents/carers to ensure any concerns are addressed promptly.able to report to the Executive Team. This regular reporting will include updates on the completion of student progress for the educational and administrative management.able to organise information events pertaining to Yr. 7 or new admissions.able to represent and promote the school at such functions as information mornings for prospective parents, information evenings and orientation days as required.Duties include:Work with the Principal and the Leadership Team in the planning and managing of assemblies, major events, allotment of staff, producing handbooks and diaries, managing internal communications and contribute to the College planner.Lead and manage the day-to-day performance of teaching staff in the Middle School, including resolving or referring staff performance issues to achieve a satisfactory conclusion.Develop and lead the agenda and determine priorities for Middle School staff meetings in partnership with the Leadership Team.Participate in Professional Learning programmes linked to the school development and school improvement planning.Mentor and lead staff to improve practice, align practice with the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers and achieve better outcomes for students.Monitor the academic progress and pastoral needs in Middle School, in conjunction with the Head of Wellbeing, classroom teachers and Education Support staff.Oversee all Middle School communication processes including reporting, the College newsletter, information evenings, camps and the development/updating of handbooks.Oversee all Middle School ACARA curriculum and other academic programmes and provide orientation programs for new students in Years 7-9.Oversee the work of Year Level Coordinators (7-9) and liaise with subject domain leaders.
