The Rockhampton Grammar School is currently recruiting for a full-time, Head of Library to join our School.The Head of Library plays a pivotal role in fostering a culture of reading, research, and information literacy within our school community. This position combines the responsibilities of a librarian with teaching and educational leadership.This position is a full-time position on a 5-year tenure with a competitive salary of up to $143,582.00 p.a, plus super and benefits. (Note: this pay-scale is reflective of the applicants teaching experience in accordance with the RGS EBA).Commencement for this position is Term 3 or Term 4, as negotiated with the successful candidate.The Rockhampton Grammar School was founded in 1881 and is an independent co-educational day and boarding school, educating and caring for students from Prep to Year 12, as well as the Early Learning Years. The School is the largest independent boarding school in Queensland and the second largest co-educational boarding school in Australia. It is a leading school in regional Queensland and one of the foremost schools in regional Australia. The Rockhampton Grammar School has achieved great success in the academic, cultural, sporting and vocational fields over the past 143 years. Our staff are recognised as being central to achieving our mission.The School values co-curricular involvement and provide a wide variety of opportunities for staff in this regard.Key Duties And ResponsibilitiesReporting to the Deputy to the Headmaster; the Head of Library will ensure that library services and facilities meet the needs of students and staff. The Head of Library will collaborate with educators, students, and administrators to support the School's curriculum, promote a love for reading, and enhance digital and information literacy skills among students.Duties will include (but not be limited to):Curriculum IntegrationCollaborate with teachers to plan, teach, evaluate and assess to ensure effective integration of information literacy, research, reading, literature, literacy and trans literacy skills into curriculum areas Design and deliver instructional programmes that support classroom learning objectives. Provide resources and support for project-based learning, research, and multimedia presentations. Create and nurture an information-rich learning environment which supports the needs of the School community. Promote independent learning, research and inquiry. Collection DevelopmentSelect and acquire books, digital resources, and educational materials that align with the curriculum and meet the diverse needs of students. Maintain an up-to-date and engaging collection of print and digital resources. Remove outdated or irrelevant materials to ensure a relevant and vibrant collection. Reading PromotionPromote a culture of reading by teaching library reading classes, sharing books with students, including peer to peer sharing and promotions, organising reading events, book clubs, and author visits. Encourage independent reading by recommending age-appropriate and engaging books to students. Information LiteracyTeach students information literacy skills, including locating and evaluating sources, organising information to make it meaningful, citing references, and conducting effective research - and be able to effectively communicate the information to others. Provide guidance on digital citizenship, online safety and responsible use of information. Technology IntegrationIntegrate technology tools and digital resources to enhance teaching and learning experiences. Provide training and support to teachers and students on digital tools and library databases. Educational InnovationMaintain awareness of best practice in the Library and Education sectors through involvement in relevant networks and reading of professional literature. Support continuous improvement, evaluation and evidence-based innovation in school library programmes. Collaboration and Professional DevelopmentCollaborate with teachers to plan and implement interdisciplinary projects and lessons. Participate in professional development to stay updated on library trends, educational technology, and teaching methodologies. Library Leadership and ManagementCreate and implement a Library Vision and Mission. Provide inspiration and leadership to develop the performance of the Library team. Manage library operations, including cataloging, circulation, and inventory management. Maintain a welcoming and organised library space conducive to learning and research. Deliver core library services during desk shifts, including shelving, circulation, reference queries, information literacy and student supervision. Work with the Library Team in delivering information literacy initiatives and strategies. Manage Library budgeting and record keeping requirements. Advocacy and OutreachAdvocate for the library's role in education to school leadership, teachers, and parents. Collaborate with school libraries, public libraries and community organisations to enhance resources and opportunities for students. Any other tasks as requested by the Deputy to the Headmaster.N.B This position description contains the most important duties and tasks regarding the job to be done. It is not an exclusive/exhaustive list.Required Skills/Knowledge/ExperienceAn ALIA accredited graduate or post graduate Library and Information qualifications that include specialisations related to the school library context; QCT registration or ability to obtain QCT registration; Strong knowledge of library cataloging systems, digital resources, and educational technology; Knowledge of workplace health and safety and school related legislation (desirable); Well-evidenced planning, organisational, analytical and decision-making skills; Passion for promoting reading and information literacy skills among students; Excellent collaboration and communication skills; and Ability to adapt to changing technologies and educational trends. KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND ATTRIBUTESSpecialist knowledge of information literacy, resource management, technology, and library management; Have a sound knowledge of young adult literature and how to promote and foster a love of reading; Have a sound knowledge of the Australian Curriculum; Proven ability to teach a secondary class in the Department of your specialisation; Active member of Library networks, or demonstration of active membership of other professional networks; Excellent organisation, interpersonal and communication skills; Ability to multi-task and work in an engaging student environment; Willingness to help staff the Library roster outside school hours, flexibility to cover after school hours when other staff are unavailable. REQUIRED LICENCES/CERTIFICATESQueensland College of Teachers (QCT) Registration or ability to obtain; An ALIA accredited graduate or post graduate Library and Information qualifications that include specialisations related to the school library context; Professional membership of the Australian Library and Information Association; Safeguarding Children Online Training Certificate.
