An exceptional opportunity has arisen for a senior legal professional with expertise in consumer credit and extensive experience in both Australian and UK legal systems.
This newly created role is ideal for a highly experienced lawyer with over 10 years of expertise in high-risk lending, consumer credit, and financial services, who is ready to lead and shape the legal strategy for a high-growth business in Sydney.
As Head of Legal, the successful candidate will act as the principal authority on complex legal matters, including consumer credit, subprime lending, and compliance within regulated, higher-risk markets.
The role requires a strategic approach to navigating legal and regulatory challenges, ensuring the highest standards of compliance across consumer lending activities.
Key Responsibilities: Lead and advise on all legal aspects of consumer credit, lending practices, high-risk consumer contract management, and regulatory compliance.Oversee dispute resolution and litigation within state and federal courts, focusing on consumer protection and regulatory adherence.Collaborate with the Risk and Compliance teams to proactively identify and mitigate potential risks.Provide senior-level guidance on employment law matters and governance, supporting risk management initiatives and assisting the company secretary on board-related matters.Offer comprehensive legal counsel across departments, ensuring full compliance with Australian regulatory requirements and providing expertise in privacy and intellectual property law.Ideal Candidate Profile:
The ideal candidate will bring:
10+ years of post-qualification legal experience, with admission to practice law in Australia and exposure to UK consumer credit regulations highly desirable.Extensive background in consumer finance, particularly in ASIC and ACCC compliance, with a deep understanding of Australian consumer credit, UFT, and insurance laws.Proven experience in litigation involving individual consumer and small debt recovery cases.Additional expertise in regulatory compliance or financial services law is advantageous, along with knowledge of corporate governance and company secretarial responsibilities.Benefits and Opportunities:
