An exciting opportunity exists for a passionate, enthusiastic Head of Communications to join Logan City Council. This senior leadership role is focused on the strategic direction and operational management of the Corporate Communications Branch. Where you will connect the community to Council services and decisions, while promoting the City of Logan to vast audiences and managing reputational risk.
As the Head of Corporate Communications, you will have a supportive, personable, and naturally customer centric style; Where you empower your teams to dig deep and find new and innovative ways to share information, driving awareness and growth. Your team consists of 40 staff, including 3 leaders, all specialists in their fields: (reporting to you)
Internal Communications and Community Engagement Program Leader, andExternal Communications Program LeaderIt's essential you have your finger on the pulse with the ability to identify new trends and resolve issues early. You will confidently articulate your messaging and liaise with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, including the Executive Leadership Team (ELT), Mayor, Councillors, fellow staff, and community members and media. You will have exceptional communication, conflict resolution, negotiation, and persuasion skills.
This role is based in Logan Central and reports to Director People and Engagement.
Key responsibilities include: Strategic Input and Planning – Develop the Branch Business Plan aligning with the Operational Plan, considering long-term implications of actions. Lead and inspire a dynamic team to deliver innovative communication, marketing, media, reputation, and social media strategies.Image and Reputation Building – Oversee the development of an enterprise-wide media and marketing strategy that strengthens the image and reputation of the City of Logan and Logan City Council at a regional, state, and national level.Broad Communication – Develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies that ensure consistent, clear, and effective messaging across all levels of the organisation and throughout the region.Financial Management – Forecast, plan, develop and review annual budget in collaboration with Program Leaders, Financial Analysts and Director People and Engagement. Identifying cost effectiveness and maximising value for money.People Leadership – Coach and mentor the team, ensuring staff have the necessary tools, technology, and information they need to succeed. Promoting a supportive, collaborative work environment.Branch and Program Management – Lead and oversee the management of marketing, community engagement, communications to promote the Council services and the City of Logan. Driving positive brand, image, and reputation.Stakeholder Management and Community Engagement – Identify, build, and maintain positive stakeholder relationships within a complex, multi-faced organisation and a diverse community.Does this align with your experience? Experience in communications management, marketing, organisational brand, community engagement and media roles in government and/or private sector.Ability to develop and execute proactive media and reputation branding opportunities.Demonstrated experience leading teams and driving business planning, implementation, and strategy.Exceptional verbal, written communication, and presentation skills with heightened ability to influence, negotiate and engage.Why choose Logan City Council?
