ABOUT THE ROLE: A rare opportunity has opened up to join the Urban List executive team as Head of Content, leading a team of internal and external experts to create and share content that: Aligns to our brand values and is valued by our community and clients alike, differentiating Urban List from our peers. Increases the scale and engagement of our audience, earning their loyalty and trust and establishing a community of raving fans. Drives commercial growth opportunities, including affiliate partnerships, syndication licensing, and sponsored and branded content. Explores new formats, categories, markets, and technologies. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES: Content strategy: Produce content and distribution strategies that sees Urban List create content that is culturally relevant, supports brand objectives, and delivers strong value to our community and clients; drives the growth, engagement, and loyalty of our audience; and embraces opportunities across new formats, categories, and markets. Team performance: Manage a decentralised team of professionals, together with a growing freelance network, coaching them to understand the core needs of their audience, how to achieve targets and grow market share, and develop new skills as new formats and revenue opportunities emerge; and deliver on agreed targets, providing clear reporting on performance vs expectations. Operational efficiency: Optimise processes to maximise efficiency and ROI. Collaborate across the business to create and evolve systems, ensuring they are consistently and confidently used; and nimbly manage human resources to develop a scalable model of full-time and freelance talent aligned with ever-evolving business and client needs. Commercial content initiatives: Identify new opportunities to leverage content for commercial growth, including affiliate strategy, sponsorships, and licensing. Data analysis and reporting: Lead audience insights and analytics efforts to inform content strategy and business decisions. Budget management: Oversee budget to maximise profitability and return on investment. Market creation: Identify market opportunities that see the Urban List brand expand into new commercially successful arenas. Test and develop user revenue opportunities that deepen audience relationships. Pitching and thought leadership: Represent Urban List to deliver insights and expertise that secure significant pitch and partnership opportunities, and extend our share of wallet and/or voice. Capitalising on trends, technologies, and platforms: Ensure the department is plugged into emerging industry trends, channels, and tactics; cultivate a culture of innovation and inspiration. Technology evolution: Lend audience expertise to optimise the Urban List technology stack. A key member of the executive team, the Head of Content will collaborate closely with other senior team members to: Align audience growth strategies with overall business objectives and brand client requirements. Identify new opportunities that bring the company vision to life. Ensure our culture empowers our people to bring their best, always in all ways. KEY REQUIREMENTS FOR SUCCESS: The ideal candidate will bring 10+ years of experience leading teams in content creation and audience development within digital media. They will be a highly commercial, audience-obsessed leader with a passion for creating engaging, culturally relevant content that drives audience and revenue growth. Key competencies likely will include: Leadership: Ability to inspire a decentralised team to drive performance, fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation. Strategic thinking: Capacity to develop and implement comprehensive content strategies that align with brand objectives. Commercial acumen: Strong understanding of how to leverage content for commercial growth, including experience with affiliate marketing, sponsorships, and licensing. Analytical skills: Proficiency in data analysis and reporting, with the ability to translate insights into actionable strategies. Financial management: Experience in budget oversight and optimisation. Product innovation: Track record of successfully implementing new content formats, categories, membership programs, or technologies. Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across departments and with external partners. Adaptability: Flexibility to adjust strategies and tactics in response to changing market conditions and emerging opportunities. Technical understanding: Familiarity with content management systems, tools, and technology stack optimisation. Brand stewardship: Experience amplifying brands through content-led strategies.
