We are looking for a Head Chef to join our team at Base Kitchen and Bar to run our kitchen and elevate our menu while we work towards further expansion.
We are a well-established café, trading for over a decade in Benowa. We have a loyal local customer base and attract tourists on the Gold Coast as well. This gives us a reliable and consistent business, providing job security and consistent working hours for our team.

This role will allow you to work with the owner to create a new and exciting menu and to run a kitchen as if it were your own.
Your day to day: Oversee daily kitchen operations. Apply and monitor food safety procedures to ensure all menu items are prepared and served in line with food safety standards. Ensure that all meals are of high quality, cost-effective, and within budget. Maintain a clean kitchen and well-maintained equipment. Responsible for ensuring all kitchen opening and closing procedures are followed. Co-ordinate activities of the kitchen team. Revise existing dishes and create new exciting dishes to keep up with industry and seasonal trends. Create recipes and train kitchen staff on their execution. Maintain consistency in how all dishes are prepared and presented. Staff Management: Work with management to maintain a kitchen roster within budget. Aid in the recruitment process and the continued establishment of a high-performing team. Inspire the active participation of all staff in the creative process. Monitor and motivate team members to achieve high standards. Conduct training and assess the competency of team members to assist in team development & mentoring. What you'll bring: Demonstrated experience working as a Chef, preferably in a senior role. Effective leadership, communication skills, delegation & guidance. Comprehensive understanding of food hygiene and food safety programs. Knowledge of customer dietary requirements. Relevant Chef qualification(s) with Certificate III or IV in Commercial Cookery. Accredited Food Safety Supervisor an advantage. Knowledge of market trends relating to food and menus. Industry experience in high-volume kitchen operations. Demonstrated experience in menu design and creativity. Summary of role requirements: Flexible hours available. 2-3 years of relevant work experience required for this role.
