Amazon's Dangerous Goods (DG) and Storage Compliance (StC) program mission is to ensure the safety of our customers, associates and carrier partners by delivering innovative solutions to ensure dangerous goods and hazardous materials (hazmat) compliance, redefining industry best practices and standards, and safely enabling business. The APAC Dangerous Goods & Storage Compliance team is looking for an AU DG/StC Program Manager to manage dangerous goods and storage compliance projects and act as a program owner.
This role requires working cross functionally to define the strategy, requirements, and timelines to drive improvements in the existing program. This will include identifying and closing compliance gaps and driving new compliance initiatives. Cross-team coordination, program management, and effective communication skills are essential. The successful candidate will work across regional and global compliance, legal, operations and technical team members to deliver results.
Key Job ResponsibilitiesThe successful candidate will act as the local Australian program owner for the global Dangerous Goods and Hazmat Storage compliance program. This will include:
Deep dive into specific DG/StC related requirements e.g. external regulatory and internal Amazon policy requirements.Identify and lead DG/StC improvement projects, eliminating excess processes, driving efficiencies and creating predictable process controls and processes (including automated tools and systems) to support improving state of compliance, business expansion and program efficiency.Own the full initiative lifecycle from initiation through delivery.Develop and maintain internal procedures/SOPs for transportation of dangerous goods to ensure compliance with applicable regulations.Ensure closed loop processes are in place both internally and externally to address identified regulatory risks, fix identified defects, and review and restrict unauthorized DG products proactively.Advise transport teams on how to ensure contracts with carriers are compliant and fit for purpose.Manage regulatory, legal, safety, carrier and supplier escalations.Work cross functionally with business teams, fulfillment center partners as well as software teams to ensure DG compliance requirements are well defined and projects are carried out to timely delivery.Develop DG Subject Matter Experts in the FCs and ensure business teams have the knowledge and tools to self-serve related queries.BASIC QUALIFICATIONS4+ years of compliance program management, legal, governance, audit, risk/loss prevention, or equivalent experienceBachelor's degree or equivalentTrack record of success in driving operational excellence/process improvement projectsAbility to work independently and autonomously navigating problems, solutions and strategies that are not well-definedPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSExperience with SQLExperience interfacing with regulators (EPA, WorkSafe etc.) and industry associations (ALC, Accord etc.)Strong working knowledge of International (IATA/IMDG) and Australian Dangerous Goods (ADG Code) regulatory requirementsExperience driving process improvement with scalable technology solutionsAcknowledgement of country:In the spirit of reconciliation Amazon acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community.
