Halls Gap Zoo is situated in the foothills of the Grampians Mountain ranges, Victoria, Australia. Our collection comprises over 120 species of native and exotic mammals, reptiles, and birds.
An opportunity has arisen for a motivated individual to join our committed and friendly team. Initially, you will be trained on our Front of House sections (Admissions and Food and Beverage) and our Animal Kitchen (Animal Food Preparation). The ability to engage with customers and our team is essential. Once you have shown competency in these areas, we will start your training on one of our keeping rounds, including animal encounters, which will be alternated with the previously described roles.
This is an ideal position for someone who is looking to start a career in Zoo keeping, as the right candidate will be given the opportunity to be trained as a future animal keeper.
Duties of the position will include:Customer service.Selling tickets and upselling encounters.Working in our Food van.Daily food preparation for a variety of species.Animal husbandry/Keeping.Public animal encounters.Essential CriteriaApproachable and a hard worker.Well presented.Friendly and easy-going with an outgoing personality.Proactive and professional in all that you do.Willing to be flexible on the rostered rounds and through the day to assist the team as required across a variety of duties.Good customer service skills.Mature team player with proof of a positive attitude with visitors and driven to connect our visitors with our wildlife.High level of physical fitness for a physically demanding job.Current Working with Children's Check and First Aid Certificate or ability to obtain.Desirable skills and attributes:Certificate III in Zoo Keeping, Animal Management (Captive Wild Animals) or equivalent would be advantageous.Experience working or volunteering in a zoological facility or with domestic animals.Previous customer service experience.Barista experience.Current unencumbered Full drivers' licence.Hours of work:Part of a rolling 4-week roster, 8 hour shifts (7.30 am to 4pm or 9am to 5.30pm). Must be able to work weekends and public holidays.
