SC4 Demonstrated proficiency in the safe use of equipment as relevant to the position eg: carpentry tools, including power tools, gardening equipment including ride on lawn mower, trimmers and ability to complete maintenance on same.
SC5 A strong work ethic, a sense of pride in efficiently completing work to a high standard, excellent organisational skills as well as the capacity to work independently and without constant supervision.

RoleThe Maintenance person at Mildura West Primary School will work collaboratively and in a professional manner with the Principal and Assistant Principal, teaching, education support staff, parents/carers and the wider school community to ensure that the environment is safe and well maintained.
The Maintenance person's primary function at Mildura West Primary School is to ensure that the school's buildings and grounds are well maintained and presented and that all work undertaken complies with statutory obligations and Department Standards.
The Maintenance Officer's role in the school community is to be able to communicate effectively and develop a good working relationship with staff members, students and contractors at all levels.
The Maintenance Officer at Mildura West Primary School will undertake personal development opportunities to enhance the position.
The Maintenance person is required to work flexibly and reliably within tight timelines and with minimal direction in a team environment. It is important the Maintenance person operates in a professional, courteous, efficient manner at all times, respecting confidentiality.
The Maintenance person supports the School staff with the planning and implementation of maintenance services. Organisation, consistency and efficiency are vital in all aspects of this role.
A position at this level provides specialized knowledge that is relied upon to deliver services, under direction. Application of specialized knowledge is confined to a specific functional area: eg Maintenance. The level has the ability to apply technical principles to enable the performance of a variety of inter-related technical tasks, and will undertake relevant occupational health and safety requirements and, where necessary, risk assessments within the relative work area.
This position has line management responsibilities to the Principal but on a day to day basis is accountable to the Facilities Manager. The Maintenance Position is part of the Facilities Team, whose responsibility is to work co-operatively as part of the team, ensuring a productive, efficient workplace.
Co-ordinate, organise and determine work priorities within a clearly defined functional area e.g. maintenance/upgrades.
Co-ordinate contractors, adhering to OHS requirements. Have a competent ability in and knowledge of building and carpentry, and strong decision and time management abilities.
Provides routine supervision, guidance and support to other support staff. Ensure the efficient operation of the work area within the regular direction of senior management. Obtain cooperation of other school staff for the purpose of achieving the objectives of the work area.
ResponsibilitiesThe responsibilities of this position will be:
To instruct and coordinate service contractors and ensure works are carried out with due regard to protection of the buildings and grounds and also with minimum disruption to school activities.
To take a hands-on role in performing daily maintenance tasks whenever required which will include: removal of graffiti, emergency maintenance, cleaning and deliveries.
To respond to service requests from staff for breakdowns and repairs and maintain records of such requests.
To implement appropriate OH&S and risk management procedures and ensure staff and contractors comply with OHS requirements and legislated standards.
To assist with planning and staging of school events as required to ensure such matters as equipment and furniture relocation and facilities meet the needs of the school.
To respond to any emergency situations in an appropriate manner and undertake such other duties as may be required.
Maintain the school grounds including mowing all grassed areas, controlling weed growth, blowing the grounds and removal of rubbish.
Undertake other duties relevant to the field of responsibility as requested by the Business Manager, Assistant Principal or Principal. This position description describes in general terms the normal duties which the Maintenance Officer is expected to undertake. However, the duties described may vary or be amended from time to time without changing the level of responsibility associated with the position.

The Maintenance Grounds person is directly responsible to the Principal and Assistant Principal. The Maintenance position is part of the Facilities Team, whose responsibility is to work co-operatively as part of the team ensuring a productive, efficient workplace.
Dimensions of Work Maintenance and development of the school facilities under the direction of the Assistant Principal.Membership of OHS Team and associated responsibilities.Maintenance and service of school maintenance equipment and mowers.Co-ordination of effective and safe use of school maintenance and storage facilities.Development and implementation of an ongoing Maintenance Program.Co-ordination of school access by tradesmen and maintenance and associated OHS requirements.Responsibilities: Respond in a timely manner to day to day facilities issues which may include:
Maintenance and repairs including general repairs to buildings, furniture and equipment, minor painting, removal of graffiti and replacement of light globes etc including those reported on the school maintenance log.Report all areas needing attention of electrician or plumber to the office. Liaise with tradesmen and contractors on site to ensure buildings and grounds are at an optimum and maintain the professional image of the school.Observe OH&S requirements and regulations.Coordinate and ensure the daily cleaning of the school grounds and the waste management and rubbish removal.Carry out minor maintenance and inspections as requested.Development and aftercare of garden beds, landscaping and school grounds.Repair and install irrigation lines and general irrigation equipment as directed.Regular usage and maintenance of a range of tools and equipment relevant to the duties.Maintain lawn areas, mow weed and edge. Ride-on lawn mower driving.Application of weedicide and pesticides.Grounds persons duties as required and directed by the Facilities and Maintenance Manager/Assistant Principal.In conjunction with the Business Manager, work within the school budget in relation to facilities, maintenance and grounds.Attend briefings, meetings and professional development in relation to the position.Other duties as directed.Work Schedule The school's Maintenance/Grounds work schedule requirements are calculated at 21 hours per week.Any extra hours worked that exceed the work schedule requirements will need to be negotiated with the Principal or Assistant Principal before the work is carried out.The work schedule is to ensure basic weekly role requirements are met and is set out below;The position requires attendance for duty during all school holiday periods and attracts 20 days annual leave per year pro rata.The position attracts a leave purchase allowance in addition to normal hours. The position is Education Support 52/52.Monday (5hrs) to include blowing school and tidy before 8:30am.
Wednesday (8hrs) General maintenance/projects as set out in Maintenance book.
Thursday (3 hrs) Bins brought in, and cleaned, general maintenance/projects as set out in Maintenance book.
Friday (5 hrs) to include blowing school on assembly days, tidy up prior to 9:00am and general maintenance.
