About the role The Government Relations Officer supports our commitment to advancing the accessibility and acceptance of medicinal cannabis in Australia. As a key member of the Legal and Compliance team, this role plays a crucial part in supporting campaigning, developing policy initiatives, and executing government relations strategies, ultimately contributing to the growth and success of Montu and our patients.
Key Responsibilities Government Relations and AdvocacySupport the Government Relations team in maintaining relationships with government officials, regulators, and key stakeholders.Assist in securing opportunities for the Government Relations team to engage with key stakeholders.Work with the Government Relations team to develop key messaging and communicate policy priorities.Provide insights into the workings and ideological positions of key stakeholders and stakeholder organisations.Under supervision, draft advocacy materials, including reports, leave-behinds, and policy papers to influence policymakers.Assist with advocacy for policies that support the medicinal cannabis industry's growth and sustainability.Policy and EngagementAssist with the identification of stakeholders including key decision makers, patient advocacy groups, healthcare professionals, and select members of the broader community; and assist in their engagement.Organise support for policy changes through meaningful community engagement.Source relevant and up-to-date information and assist in its analysis to provide data-driven recommendations on positions relevant to medicinal cannabis in Australia.Utilise data and research to guide strategic policy decisions.Under supervision, research and draft policy proposals, position papers, and briefings for consumption by experts within Montu and within the broader medicinal cannabis industry.Qualifications Preference for a professional or volunteer background in political organisations, public advocacy, community engagement, communications, or policy.Exceptional written communication skills with the ability to synthesise complex and technical information into concise and accurate briefings.Strong collaboration skills, with a desire to grow, learn, and seize opportunities.Ability to travel domestically for work-related purposes up to once per month.Exceptional research and analytical skills.Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills for effective stakeholder engagement.Proficiency in using data and research to drive policy development.Knowledge of the Australian political and healthcare landscape.Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.Strong project management and organisational skills.What you'll be responsible for Office and Team CoordinationCoordinate the smooth and effective day-to-day administrative operations of an office or team.
