We have a fantastic opening for an experienced Government Relations Lead to join Victorian Managed Insurance Authority (VMIA). As a Government Relations Lead, you'll play a key role to provide strategic advice to our Assistant Treasurer and Department of Treasury and Finance (DTF) and work with VMIA's subject matter experts and the executive leadership team to deliver maximum impact.

We're an agency in the Department of Treasury and Finance portfolio, established under the Victorian Managed Insurance Authority Act, and report to the Assistant Treasurer.
We provide insurance and risk advice to government departments and agencies, with more than 4,600 clients, ranging from small community service organisations to public hospitals, schools, and core service providers. We also provide domestic building insurance to builders, giving Victorian homeowners peace of mind for building projects valued over $16,000.
We help our clients prepare for, prevent, or reduce the impact of harm. When things don't go to plan, we help clients restore services and recover quickly.

Your role As the Government Relations Lead, you will play a key role to provide strategic advice to our Assistant Treasurer and Department of Treasury and Finance (DTF) and work with VMIA's subject matter experts and the executive leadership team to deliver maximum impact.
You will be the conduit between the government and VMIA, ensuring that VMIA's role in government is well understood and that communication between the two entities is timely and effective.
You will be accountable for leading the development and the delivery of ministerial and department briefings, parliamentary questions, public accounts, and estimate's committee briefing and other obligations from DTF's corporate planning and performance reporting requirements.
Your role reports to the Head of Corporate Affairs and will collaborate with the Corporate Affairs Team, our Minister's Office, the Assistant Treasurer, and our portfolio department, the Department of Treasury and Finance (DTF).
What you do  You proactively manage VMIA's relationship with the Assistant Treasurer and DTF to ensure they are informed, have confidence in and are advocates for VMIA.You anticipate stakeholder's requirements and work with your networks across VMIA and government, to obtain information and translate it into a form that is valuable to the Minister/DTF. You coordinate the timely delivery of advice to the Minister/DTF. You are a skilled brief writer.You source, develop and deliver, high-quality, accurate, well-thought through advice that meets government reporting obligations.You work across VMIA to build networks and provide advice and support to facilitate high quality reporting, briefings, and engagement with stakeholders.Who you work with You will closely work with the Head of Corporate Affairs to deliver organisation-wide government relations advice and to manage VMIA's relationship with the Minister and DTF.Collaborate with communications advisors in the Corporate Affairs team to support their deliverables and to help ensure internal and external communications are appropriately framed by VMIA's government context.Engage with VMIA staff to understand and contribute to operational activities and to share your expertise on government protocols, processes, and policy.Engage with Minister's Office and DTF to share information, build effective relationships, and facilitate briefings on relevant matters.About you  You are experienced in building networks and working with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver accurate relevant information in a form that suits the audience.You have an eye for detail and produce high quality, accurate material that you effectively communicate in writing and verbally.You are experienced in writing Ministerial and departmental briefs that are timely, accurate and meet the audience's requirements.You have highly developed interpersonal skills, including an ability to engage and work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders.You are experienced in dealing with senior stakeholders across government and have the confidence and resilience to persevere in seeking clear and accurate information as needed.You enjoy working flexibly and under pressure, noting that when our stakeholders require information, they often need it urgently.Qualifications You hold a tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline (for example, public administration, finance, business, law, insurance, or commerce).You are experienced in working in a government environment and have worked with ministerial offices and/or central agencies in the past.There are many reasons to work at VMIA, here is how we will support you:
