WHO WE ARE Gumala Aboriginal Corporation (GAC) works to alleviate poverty and promote self-determination for the Banjima, Yinhawangka, and Nyiyaparli people of the Pilbara region in Western Australia. GAC was established in 1996 following negotiations with Hamersley Iron Pty Ltd, a subsidiary of Rio Tinto, to advocate for the collective interests of the Traditional Owners.
We are a membership-based organisation and serve around 2,000 Members across Western Australia, Australia and the world. THE OPPORTUNITY Reporting to the Governance Manager, the Governance Officer provides administrative support to the Board of Gumala Aboriginal Corporation, delivering excellent service and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements at all times. The position is responsible for the preparation of Board and Committee Agenda and minutes, and the development and maintenance of policies and key corporate documents. This is a Full-Time opportunity offered on an initial 12-month Fixed Term contract (with the possibility of extension).
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to: Maintain effective reporting systems for the Board and Committees.Organise Board and subcommittee meetings, including preparing board packs, drafting agendas, and taking minutes.Support governance-related projects such as Annual General Meeting and Member Consultations meetings.Provide advice on governance-related matters.Our ideal candidate will have: Experience in research and report writing.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Ability to manage multiple tasks and competing deadlines.Cultural sensitivity with a demonstrated understanding of and alignment with Aboriginal cultural values.Tertiary qualification in Business, Law, Governance, or a relevant field.Previous experience in the Not For Profit sector will be highly regarded.WHATS ON OFFER Salary Packaging that allows you to reduce your taxable income.Access to free confidential counselling service.Annual end of year shutdown.Opportunities to grow your career.Active GAC social club.APPLICATION PROCESS As an equal-opportunity employer, Gumala Aboriginal Corporation (GAC) values inclusivity; promotes a workplace that actively seeks to welcome contributions from all people, including, but not limited to; genders, cultural backgrounds, LGBTQIA+, disability & neurodiversity.
