Connected People are excited to partner with a leading and growing corporation in Newcastle to find a dedicated Governance Officer.
About the Role: The Governance Officer will support the governance functions of the corporation, working closely with the Governance Manager. This role involves high-level support for Council and Committees, including governance advice, policy and procedure, and managing special projects. You will be a key player in promoting teamwork and collaboration while liaising with internal and external stakeholders. Additionally, you will support meetings and contribute to best practice governance processes. This role is a permanent full-time position.
Key Responsibilities: Governance Advice: Provide operational support and advice on governance matters, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements and best practices. Assist in the development and review of relevant policies and procedures. Committee Support: Manage scheduling, agenda preparation, and minute-taking for Council, committees, and other working groups. Ensure timely communication of decisions and actions. Policy and Procedure: Support the development and maintenance of governance processes, ensuring they meet best practice standards and regulatory compliance. Recordkeeping: Maintain accurate records of meeting papers, agendas, minutes, and associated documentation in line with the organisation's records management framework. Elections: Manage elections, including arranging ballots and ensuring adherence to legislation and procedures. Training: Identify training needs and support the development of governance training resources and programs. Position Requirements: Organisational Knowledge: Understand and adhere to equity, diversity, and work health and safety policies. Collaborate strategically to achieve project goals. Professional Knowledge: Expertise in governance and company secretarial practices, with a solid understanding of legislative and regulatory frameworks applicable to the corporate sector. Independence: Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team. Problem Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritise and make informed decisions. Excellent Written and Verbal Communication: Attention to spelling, grammar, and presentation, with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organisation. Key Relationships: Effective communication with internal and external stakeholders, maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
