Corporate Governance is responsible for the effective management of corporate governance systems including, establishing and administering the QFD Corporate Governance Framework to support the Commissioner as the Accountable Officer. The team provides secretariat functions to corporate governance committees and the delivery of strategic governance through the consistency of process and services.
Reporting to the Executive Manager, you will be a key member of the team responsible for providing support and guidance to departmental staff to ensure correct governance is understood and consistently applied. You will also support the team through the provision of secretariat activities to a select number of QFD corporate governance committees, as well as liaising and providing support to business units to ensure systems and processes meet best practice and departmental governance requirements.
About Us The Queensland Fire Department (QFD) provides fire prevention, preparedness and response services to fire in the built and landscape environments, as well as scientific and specialist capabilities to Queensland communities. The QFD provides a multi-hazard emergency response, including road crash rescue, bushfire, hazardous material, technical and vertical rescue, severe weather incidents, remote and swiftwater rescue, and provides a number of functions supporting community safety outcomes.
The department encompasses Queensland Fire and Rescue (QFR), Rural Fire Service Queensland (RFSQ), as well as the broader department which work together to pre-empt, prevent, mitigate and manage the consequences of fires and other emergencies on Queensland communities and support our large volunteer membership across the state.

Your key accountabilities Responsibilities Your part in the ongoing success of our department, in supporting frontline services will see you responsible for a variety of work, including, but not limited to:
Assist with the ongoing review of the QFD Corporate Governance Framework, identify issues and/or provide recommendation for improvement to ensure contemporary governance practices and legislative requirements meet departmental objectives.Provide advice and guidance to other business areas, as required in the establishment and maintenance of effective and consistent governance for working groups, advisory groups and committees across the department.Support team members in the provision of secretariat services and/or support high-level meetings and committees by ensuring agendas, recording and circulation of minutes and follow up on actions and outcomes are efficiently maintained.Develop and maintain effective relationships, networks and partnerships with key internal and external stakeholders to promote excellence in corporate governance.Assist in the research, preparation and review of reports, briefing notes, submissions, business cases and other correspondence, in accordance with departmental requirements.Support business improvement initiatives to ensure tools, systems and processes meet best practice expectations as outlined in internal audits and compliance activities.Participate in the implementation of governance improvement projects and initiatives to ensure systems, procedures and processes meet best practice expectations and support the delivery of contemporary corporate governance services.
