About the RoleThe GIS Specialist plays a vital role within the Emergency Communications Information Services (ECIS) team, focusing on delivering comprehensive GIS functions, including data management, mapping, and analysis. Reporting to the Manager of GIS Mapping and Data, the specialist is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and currency of spatial data, as well as providing troubleshooting and support for various incidents and requests.
The primary objective of the role is to extract, transform, and load spatial data from Emergency Service Organizations (ESOs) and government agencies into the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system. This data is crucial for the verification, routing, and dispatch processes utilized by call takers and dispatchers to accurately locate callers during emergencies.
Day to day responsibilities include:
Liaise with stakeholders to assess and manage data processing needs for the CAD system, ensuring accuracy and currency of geospatial data.Administer updates and changes to spatial data, maintaining compliance with procedures and service levels.Enhance the spatial database environment by identifying and resolving issues and implementing information for spatial data and mapping requirements.Contribute to the development and maintenance of data administration procedures, technical documentation, and strategies for improving geospatial capabilities and data processing.Foster relationships with agencies and vendors, supporting map upgrades and reporting on service level agreements for customer data.About YouAs a GIS Specialist, you will have experience in geospatial technology and geospatial data as well as a Diploma or Tertiary qualification in Geospatial Info Tech or Computer Science, in addition to the following skills and experience:
Proven experience in SQL scripting and computer programming, with knowledge of SQL Server and/or Oracle; candidates must pass an SQL scripting test prior to interview.Extensive experience with the ESRI suite of products.Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities, along with the capability to work independently and share knowledge within the team.What We Can Offer YouYou will be supporting a critical service to the Victorian community and will be rewarded with a competitive salary, flexible working arrangements and employee benefits including:
