The Role BGC is seeking a Geotechnical or Geological Engineer with experience in tailings management and tailings dam site investigation, design, analysis or construction support. They will work in a multidisciplinary team, leading tasks related to earth dam design and construction. The ideal candidate will gain valuable industry experience working at a multinational Engineering firm, while practicing our values of One Team, Excellence, Curiosity, Common Sense, and Clarity.
This role is a fulltime position based in Brisbane, Australia with opportunities to travel to our Canadian offices and work on projects internationally.
Responsibilities Act as a project engineer and technical lead under the direction of the Engineer of Record for tailings projects Train, mentor, and supervise technical work of Junior staff Manage projects, prepare proposals, and track budgets. Author or co-author reports Organize and supervise field programs, including site investigation, construction, and dam safety inspections Work with client representatives Help promote BGC vision, values and culture amongst BGC staff Travel as required, which could include extended shifts at remote sites Required Education, Experience & Competencies Undergraduate degree in Civil or Geological Engineering Post-graduate degree is an asset 5-15 years of relevant work experience Registered (or eligible for registration) as a professional engineer Experience in tailings management Experience in tailings dam site investigation, design, or construction support Excellent communication skills Position Requirements Drug & Alcohol Testing To ensure we meet our client's compliance requirements and our workplace health and safety commitments, BGC has a drug and alcohol policy that applies to this position. The policy states that an employee may be required to take a drug and alcohol test prior to engaging in field work. This testing could be requested within an employee's first week or in the future, as required. It is important to note that some clients also require random drug and alcohol testing, and/or testing in the event of a health and safety accident or incident.
Driver's License BGC requires employees to hold a valid, full driver's license in the jurisdiction where they will be employed. A Traffic History Report must be submitted upon hire. Employees must be able to drive a field pick-up truck. Employees are required to complete BGC Driver Training and a Driver Assessment.
