THE ROLE As Geotechnical Engineer at the Deflector Gold Copper mine, you will be involved in optimising the safe expansion of mine infrastructure & mining activities by applying your extensive knowledge of rock mechanics and geotechnical engineering principles.
Working predominantly back-to-back with the Senior Geotechnical Engineer and with the support of the Perth-based Geotechnical Superintendent, you will take ownership of Geotechnical input into stope design, mine planning, ground control planning, auditing and development design, allowing you a high amount of autonomy and responsibility.
This role is offered on an 8:6 FIFO basis from Perth and offers the opportunity to be part of a dynamic and social team environment in a high-grade Underground gold/copper operation.
Responsibilities include: Implementing and improving standards and procedures in respect to ground stability, ground monitoring and controlEnsuring geotechnical inspections of mining operations are conducted regularlyIssuing rehabilitation instructions as required to the Mining ContractorProducing brow and pillar support instructionsAssisting Mining Engineers with recommendations on geotechnical issues and providing input for development and production designsCompleting Geotechnical sections of Stope Notes and Stope ReconciliationsSupporting the Senior Geotechnical Engineer and Underground Manager in the effective implementation of the Ground Control Management Plan (GCMP) and Ground Support Standards (GSS)Assisting the Senior Geotechnical Engineer with regular updates of the GCMP and GSSUndertaking ground support audits and providing solutions for addressing issues or concernsMonitoring the seismic monitoring system and reporting on any notable eventsInvestigating any development or stope failuresManaging Geotechnical QAQC processes (including pull testing, grout sampling, shotcrete sampling and check scaling)Reviewing open pit monitoring data and highlighting any movementAssisting with the compilation of the monthly Geotechnical ReportCarrying out regular Ground Awareness Training sessions for operational personnelActively participating in planning and production meetingsAssisting in the preparation of the weekly and monthly mining schedulesABOUT YOU You are a highly skilled and detail-oriented professional who is enthusiastic, hardworking, and motivated to develop your skills. You have a passion for Geotechnics and a high attention to detail, coupled with excellent time management skills. Your ability to build rapport and influence a wide range of people will see you excel in this role.
