Steelmaking coal is an essential ingredient in blast-furnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world. In Australia, we operate five steelmaking coal mines in Queensland's Bowen Basin, and have additional joint venture interests in steelmaking coal and manganese, as well as copper exploration projects underway in Northwest Queensland and Western Australia.
Job Description Established in 2016, our Grosvenor Mine is an underground steelmaking coal operation based in the township of Moranbah, QLD. Situated only fifteen minutes' drive from the Moranbah North Airport and with an expected life of mine until 2039, Grosvenor is here to stay for the long-term growth of your career. We offer modern facilities for camp accommodation with a short travel time of only five minutes from the mine site, Anglo American housing options and healthy meals!
Grosvenor Mine has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Geotechnical Engineer to join the team on a permanent basis, based in Moranbah. This is your opportunity to join a team of passionate and supportive industry leading experts where you can really drive your future career.
You will provide strategic advice to the Technical Services department on how to maximise the value of our operations, whilst advising management and operational staff on geotechnical issues. A high level of strategic thinking, planning and problem-solving skills will be instrumental in your success in this role.
Reporting to the Technical Services Superintendent, this key role will see you:
Maintain geotechnical oversight of underground operations and audit compliance with corporate standards and approved support designs Design ground support and monitoring systems to support safe and productive mine operations Conduct regular underground inspections to audit strata conditions and confirm the effectiveness of strata support systems installed to approved support designs Provide strategic advice to the Technical Services and Mining Operations departments on how to maximise the value of the operation Advise management and operational staff on geotechnical issues Manage the Strata Defect System and ensure compliance with the Geotechnical Operational Management System Advise and assist engineers with recommendations on geotechnical and hydro-geological issues regarding mine design, planning and operations Understand and comply with all legislative and company safety, health, environment, cost and production objectives, guidelines, procedures, and requirements relevant to the professional management of ground conditions Qualifications Tertiary degree in Geotechnical Engineering or similar discipline Proven underground coal experience within a Geotechnical Engineering role Experience with computer aided mine design programs, geotechnical software, and other business software Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) would be highly advantageous or willingness to obtain recognition Ability to understand functionality of business systems and provide relevant data for business purposes Additional information Full-time permanent position based at Grosvenor Mine, Moranbah QLD Attractive 8 on, 6 off day shift only roster Competitive Salary + Annual Bonus + 12% Superannuation Residential, FIFO (company funded) & DIDO options Several conveniently timed, daily bus transfers from the airport to camp and onto site Subsidised Anglo accommodation and company funded camp with meals provided Domestic Relocation assistance to Moranbah township Anglo American company benefits What we Offer
