Geospatial Specialist (APS5) and Senior Geospatial Specialist (APS6)Full time
Starting salary $82K; package up to $120K
The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is looking to fill multiple vacancies of Geospatial Specialist (APS5) and Senior Geospatial Specialist (APS6) in the Location Infrastructure Branch and Physical Environment Accounts and Statistics Branch.
Successful applicants can work either full-time or part-time hours from one of our offices located in either Adelaide, Belconnen, Brisbane, or Hobart, although a hybrid model of working from home and the office applies.
(Note: Roles in Physical Environment Accounts and Statistics Branch are not available in Adelaide) About the roles As a Geospatial Specialist, you will work as part of a team to assist in the delivery of data and geospatial projects aligned with the roles of the sections described above.
As an APS6 level Senior Geospatial Specialist, you may also have staff supervision responsibilities, and you will take a lead role in the delivery of geospatial or data projects.

You will join our teams working with a wide range of interesting projects in the ABS and with our partners.
Our project partners range across other Australian Public Service agencies, other Australian government jurisdictions, academia, and the private and non-government sector.
Your work with us will contribute to ABS efforts and partnerships to inform: Australia's climate change adaptation and emergency response activities; environmental and ecosystem investment and policy development; addressing social disadvantage and community development; and policy and program development for Australia's social services, labour force, and economy.
Geospatial Specialist (APS5) To be suitable for this role you should:
meet the experience/qualification requirements (shown below)meet all of the first 3 skill areas (listed below)demonstrate experience in at least two of the remaining skill areas (number 4-8 listed below).Experience and qualifications Work experience of a minimum of 2 years is required in a field involving applied geospatial data and analysis, such as: geospatial science, geomatics, geography, GIS, environmental science, data science, computer science, statistics, or mathematics.
Formal qualifications in these and related fields are ideal but not essential.
Skill areas Demonstrated ability to take personal responsibility for work tasks and work collaboratively within a team.
(Essential)Good written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to apply them to different audiences.
(Essential)Experience in applying conceptual and analytical skills to data and information, including the ability to critically assess information and contribute to innovative solutions.
(Essential)Experience in applying geospatial and related technologies to produce geospatial data products and analysis, or to maintain geospatial data and infrastructure.Experience in data science and engineering, including an understanding of foundational data science concepts, data pipelines and workflows, visualisation tools, and coding languages.Knowledge and experience in the application of data governance and management frameworks and policies that ensure that data is appropriately treated and managed.Experience in the compilation of agriculture or environment data and analysis, including a demonstrated ability to integrate different types of data to develop innovative solutions.Senior Geospatial Specialist (APS6) To be suitable for this role you should:

(Essential)A range of experience in applying geospatial and related technologies to produce geospatial data products and analysis, or to maintain geospatial data and infrastructure.A range of experience in data science and engineering, including skills in foundational data science concepts, data pipelines and workflows, visualisation tools, and coding languages.Strong experience in applying data governance and management frameworks and policies that ensure that data is appropriately treated and managed.Strong experience in the application of project management methods; additional knowledge or experience of undertaking procurement processes would be highly regarded.Strong experience in the compilation of agriculture or environment data and analysis, including a demonstrated ability to integrate different types of data to develop innovative solutions.You will need to upload your current resume, provide referee details and submit a written statement to the following:
