Desorption Geologist required to join our team and work at our site based at Richlands.
06th September, 2024Geologist – Brisbane About the PositionAn opportunity exists for a Geologist to carry out field and office based geological services, gas desorption analysis and other related tasks consistent with assigned projects.
Position duties will include but are not limited to: Carry out field based geological tasks associated with coal seam gas assessments including core and cuttings sampling, core recovery measurements, core sampling for gas desorption, desorbing gas analysis including monitoring and recording of drilling rates, monitoring and recording of mud gases, monitoring and recording of retrieval times, selection and processing of gas content samples, monitoring and recording of gas volumes following specific procedures, maintenance of desorption equipment, collection and dispatch to laboratories of gas composition samples.Carry out office based geological tasks including entry and collation of drill hole data, reconciliation of geological logs with geophysical logs, preparation of English and graphic logs, preparation of final geological logs and desorption reports.Carry out laboratory based gas desorption analysis tasks including recording of gas volumes, canister void space measurements, sample mass, sample photography, coal lithotype and cleat descriptions, core slabbing, dispatch of samples, quality assurance and control of final desorption data, equipment testing and maintenance.Be prepared to work the hours/shifts required, in the locations and climates required and accept possible disruption to social activities.
Projects may require extended periods of work of 12-14 hours day or night shifts, local or interstate travel.Assist with mobilisation to and from site.Assist with rig up and rig down of field equipment.Maintain strict confidentiality in respect to all projects and operations.General housekeeping and maintenance of company vehicles and work stations.Skills/Qualifications Tertiary Qualifications in Geology or Earth Science.Experience in carrying out field based geological tasks.Experience in collecting and analysing desorbing gas from coal core.High level analytical skills with an attention to detail.Experience working on a drill rig.Demonstrated problem solving skills, with an ability to think laterally.High level oral and written communication skills.Developed report writing skills.Excellent interpersonal skills in working with a team of operational and technical personnel.Demonstrated self-motivation and enthusiasm.Sound computer skills in Microsoft Office.About youTo be considered for this fantastic opportunity you will be of an outgoing nature, enthusiastic, autonomous, goal oriented and possess strong attention to detail.
You will be comfortable working in remote locations for up to three weeks at a time.
You will have excellent verbal and written communication and problem-solving skills, sound computer skills in Microsoft Office, tertiary qualifications in Geology or Earth Science, and experience in the Oil and Gas sector in a similar role would be seen as a strong advantage.
Full training will be provided to the successful candidate with a competitive remuneration package.
As part of the selection process, pre-employment medical assessments will be required, including drug and alcohol screening.
