As the General Manager for NMI's Chemical and Biological Metrology Branch, you will:Lead the development and delivery of Australia's sovereign capability in chemical and biological measurements.Connect these capabilities to needs across the economy, from trade and energy to health, law enforcement, and the environment.Lead specialist teams in unique laboratory facilities at North Ryde and Lindfield in Sydney.Be a key member of the senior leadership team and play an integral role in delivering outcomes and priorities for NMI and the department.Represent NMI and DISR around the country and internationally as required.The Branch supports trusted measurement of chemical and biological quantities with reference materials (including pure chemicals, matrix materials, gas and DNA standards) and proficiency testing programs for Australian laboratories. It incorporates specialist national laboratories for anti-doping, forensic drugs, and ultra-trace analysis. It delivers services to government, industry, and the community and carries out research and development to enhance its capabilities in line with national and international requirements.Our ideal candidate will have highly developed analytical and problem-solving skills and be an excellent communicator. They will be an outstanding people leader, able to work effectively with diverse staff and a wide range of stakeholders. They will have high integrity, sound judgment, and strong organizational skills.We are seeking a candidate with:A successful track record of leading teams that develop technical capabilities and deliver commercial services, working with governments, industry, and the international community.Outstanding customer, stakeholder, and partner engagement and collaboration skills, and a solution-oriented mindset.Experience leading, managing, and mentoring staff, developing team culture and implementing positive work practices.Demonstrated experience with or ability to quickly acquire knowledge of measurement functions, supporting science infrastructure, and quality and safety management systems.Tertiary qualifications or research experience in a relevant area are an advantage but not a requirement. The preferred work base for this role is Sydney.You must be an Australian citizen and able to obtain at least a Baseline security clearance.
