The Company
Bundaberg Fruit and Vegetable Growers Limited is a not-for-profit industry organisation established in 1948 representing the diverse horticultural sector in the Wide Bay Burnett of Queensland which includes fruit, vegetable, herb and nut growers. We work with our members to improve on-farm practices, educate consumers, the community and assist with building a secure workforce. We work across the Wide Bay Burnett Region of Queensland, an area for which the fruit, nut, and vegetable sectors contribute over $1Billion to Queensland's economy every year.
The organisation is seeking to strengthen its range of cost effective services to growers. These services will include (but not limited to) equipment training, food safety training, audit services and support, WHS training and farm policy and procedure documentation.
It is planned to deliver these services through the current Regional Grower Services (RGS) arm of the Bundaberg Fruit and Vegetable Growers Limited.
The Role
This newly created role of General Manager – Business Development (Regional Grower Services) will lead a small team to develop and market the services. As a Business Development professional reporting to the CEO, you will contribute to setting the strategic direction of the company and execute responsibilities to align delivery of strategies to the overall objectives of the organisation. This is considered a significant and imperative expansion of the business. A key element of this role will be to deliver the development of the business, making sure that team building remains a cornerstone of the organisation.
While this new role focusses on the RGS part of the business, it is a senior role within the management of the whole business. This will require participation in the strategic direction of the business, governance, innovation, safety and sustainability. While the organisation is aiming to provide service to the regional industry, a key pillar for the business is commitment to the membership (growers and affiliates).
As the business expands there may be opportunity for advancement to members of the current management team.
Duties & Responsibilities
As the General Manager – Business Development (RGS), you will be responsible for leading and managing small teams responsible for the delivery of timely, expert, strategic advice. In particular, this will include the financial evaluation of service opportunities. The teams will be responsible to deliver on their business obligations, contributing to the pursuit of the organisation's strategic aspirations. This may include, but not be limited to:-

Lead the strategic direction, planning, decision-making and overall performance of the RGS business functions
Contribute to projects as required, assisting and advising on various aspects of collaboration activities and overall accountability for the delivery of RGS finance activities
Lead the implementation of annual budget and monthly forecast process for the RGS operations
Draft and implement effective corporate governance documents, including resolutions, delegation of authority, and other policies relevant to the RGS business.
Assist in negotiating and drafting favourable contracts/agreements with members, growers and other customers.
Lead regional and contribute to global enterprise risk management process.
Project manage the individual work programs with members, growers and other customers. This includes regular reporting of progress and remedial action where required.

Skills & Experience

Strong business development skills and commercial acumen.
Demonstrable verbal and written communication and presentation skills, including at the Board of Director level.
Proven experience in corporate governance activities within a NFP organisation.
Well-developed leadership skills including the ability to influence with and without direct authority
Proven knowledge of HR issues and capability to manage HR within a small team.
Formal and postgraduate qualifications in Business or a related field would be advantageous.
