Your Benefits Award-winning and industry recognised luxury holiday destination Be part of the Executive Team managing an iconic Australian owned brand Convenient St Leonards location with hybrid working arrangements Your Role As the General Counsel for Hamilton Island, you will oversee all internal and external legal, governance, risk and compliance matters for Hamilton Island Enterprises Ltd and its related entities, and provide related advice and counsel to the Chief Executive Officer, the Executive Leadership team and the Board of Directors. Key responsibilities of the role include:

Overseeing and managing the Legal, Safety and Risk function, including resource allocation, team leadership and strategic planning

Providing and managing legal advice on complex legal and regulatory issues

Handling all legal disputes and regulatory proceedings including engagement with external counsel

Identifying, assessing, and managing risks that could impact the organization's objectives whilst ensuring the company risk register is maintained, and reporting to the board

Lead the Safety and Risk team to ensure that the organization is compliant with occupational health and safety laws, including developing and implementing safety management systems

Identifying and assessing ESG-related risks facing the company and developing strategies to mitigate those risks

Developing and implementing an ESG framework and strategy aligned with Hamilton Island's values and vision

Overseeing environmental compliance efforts and sustainability initiatives

Promoting ethical business practices and ensuring adherence to ethical codes of conduct, anti-corruption policies and ethical sourcing practices

Fostering a workplace culture that reflects the core values of Hamilton Island - Service, Excellence, Team, Safety and Environment

About You The successful candidate will have at a minimum 10 years of legal experience with in-depth knowledge of corporate law, compliance and regulatory frameworks.

Your qualifications and experience include:

Legal Expertise: You hold a law degree and a current Australian practicing certificate with eligibility to practice in Queensland.

Risk Management: You have substantial experience in risk management, with a comprehensive understanding of risk management principles and practices, including the development and operation of risk management systems.

ESG Knowledge: You bring expertise in Environmental, Social and Governance improvement and compliance frameworks, demonstrating a commitment to sustainable and ethical business practices.

Strategic Guidance: You have a proven ability to provide strategic guidance and legal advice to Executive Teams and Board, influencing and impacting a wide variety of items.

Tourism / Hospitality Experience: Experience in the tourism or hospitality industry is desirable, showcasing your ability in navigating unique challenges of the industry, to align legal, risk and safety strategies.

Leadership and Interpersonal Skills: You are a strong leader with the ability to establish trust and develop productive relationships with all levels of the organization including collaborating with senior management in strategic planning, decision making, and culture building.

Problem-Solving: You excel in resolving problems creatively and effectively, identifying underlying issues in complex situations, recognizing patterns and trends, developing comprehensive solutions to recurring issues, and applying relevant expertise and experience to diverse legal questions.

Communication Skills: You possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, and able to convey complex legal and risk issues clearly and understandably to various stakeholders.
