GEGAC is seeking applications from suitably experienced and qualified people to fill the role of Executive Director Children, Youth and Families . This position is based in our Bairnsdale office in beautiful Gunaikurnai Country. This role will oversee a range of services including Early Years and Kindergarten, Out of Home Care, Family Services, Acute Family Services, and Homelessness Services. As a key member of the GEGAC Executive team, you will work with the CEO, GEGAC Board, Executive Team, Community, and the broader organisation to support the delivery of high-quality services and develop the Organisation consistent with GEGAC's Strategic Plan. Organisational Profile GEGAC is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation based in Bairnsdale, Victoria. Consisting of about 160 staff, GEGAC is a Not-for-Profit organisation that delivers holistic services in the areas of Primary Health, Social Services, Elders & Disability, and Early Childhood Education. GEGAC advocates for the self-determination of the Aboriginal community by prioritising services that enhance social, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing, with culture at the heart of everything we do.
Position Purpose The Executive Director of Children, Youth, and Families at GEGAC will report to the Deputy CEO and provide strategic direction, leadership, and advice to the client services directorate. This role involves leading a professional team that delivers person-centred, culturally appropriate services, including Early Years Services, Family Support Services, Extended Community Care Services, and the Aboriginal Children in Aboriginal Care (ACAC) program. The Executive Director will also lead the development of GEGAC's Youth Services.
This position will lead a professional team of Senior Managers, overseeing respective service units. The role will ensure that the division delivers safe, quality, and culturally centred service to the community. This executive role will work closely with the Executive leadership team to drive the organisation's strategic intent.
Key Responsibilities Ensuring services align with GEGAC's Strategic Plan, are budget-compliant, and adhere to relevant regulations, policies, and contractual obligations. Meeting contract deliverables and maintaining positive relationships with funders and stakeholders. Participating in networks and forums to advance service design and social policy that supports the Aboriginal community. Key Selection Criteria Demonstrated experience developing, implementing, and advancing cultural safety programs and reconciliation initiatives. Strong understanding and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and the principles of the GEGAC cultural framework. Proven strategic leadership and advisory experience focusing on culturally safe practices and creating inclusive workplaces. Experience building sustainable business models or revenue-generating initiatives in a culturally sensitive context. Ability to build strong relationships and collaborate with diverse groups, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stakeholders. Experience in policy development, evaluation, and reporting, particularly cultural safety and reconciliation. Excellent communication, project management, and organisational skills. Qualifications and Registrations Requirement Tertiary qualifications relevant to Social Services and equivalent work experience in relevant roles within this field. ESSENTIAL Senior Management level experience in an organisation providing community services in the NFP sector. ESSENTIAL Previous experience in managing service areas – Children, Youth and Families, Child Protection, Family Violence Programs, Early Years, Family Services, Out of Home Care, and Youth Services. ESSENTIAL Driver licence. ESSENTIAL A satisfactory Working with Children Check and Fit2Work Police Check. ESSENTIAL A person of Aboriginal / Torres Strait Islander background. DESIRABLE Proof of COVID-19 vaccination to align with GEGAC requirements. ESSENTIAL How to Apply Applicants must address the key selection criteria for shortlisting.
