Merced Farming has a full-time permanent position available for a Truck Driver / Heavy Plant Operator to join our team near Wee Waa, NSW. Working under the supervision of the Capital Works Manager, successful applicants will be required to carry out the primary duties of the role including:
Operation of trucks (primarily Western Star but also International and Mack) pulling grain tippers (Moore and Rhinos), flat tops and step deck trailers in single, B-Double and Road Train configurations. Collection and delivery of harvest product from field or on-farm storage to delivery points, movement of machinery between farms and movement of product (e.g. fertiliser) around the farm. Setting up, maintaining, cleaning and storing of truck and trailer equipment. Assisting in operation of Silos and grain storage infrastructure. Work will be managed by the Capital Works Manager and during busy periods will have assistance on the ground to fill/load and shift work arrangements to manage fatigue. During periods when the trucks are not in full-time use, the role may also include the following secondary duties:
Operation of Grader, including use of sloper blade to maintain levee and channel banks. Operation of Excavators, maintaining channels, levee banks and water infrastructure. Operation on Scraper and Laser Bucket, for construction and maintenance of channels, banks and storage dams. Operation of Bulldozers, including some maintenance. Workshop work including welding and fabrication work. Applicants must hold a current MC license (or at a minimum, HC with a desire to upgrade) and should have prior experience in operating road trains and ideally heavy plant to be suitable for this role. Applicants will require a reasonable degree of physical fitness as farm work can be labour-intensive. Applicants must have their own transport to work but will not need to provide their own vehicle for work purposes.
Supervision and training will be provided to applicants throughout their employment and further training is encouraged and can be facilitated. Our business takes Workplace Health & Safety seriously and all employees are required to participate in and abide by our WHS policies and procedures.
The position will involve a wage calculated at an hourly rate and compulsory superannuation, paid fortnightly and based on the experience of the applicant. Our farms are located close to Wee Waa (8km) and Narrabri (32km) so would allow for the successful applicant to live in town. Outside of harvest periods, it would be expected that the position would be required to work Monday to Friday.
