Full Time Sample Registration Team Leader (Food Technologist)Merieux NutriSciences requires a full-time sample registration team leader (food technologist) for employment to join our Microbiology team based in our Melbourne Laboratory in Blackburn. The successful candidate will require a minimum of 2 years relevant industry experience within a scientific or technical service-based industry with knowledge of NATA (ISO 17025) and TGA (PIC/S GMP) requirements, as well as GLP and GMP standards. The successful candidate will play a key role in leading the sample registration team, ensuring safety and fostering a safety culture, promoting continuous improvement and fostering a collaborative culture. The successful candidate will require a minimum of Bachelor level qualification in a Laboratory, Scientific or Administration or equivalent industry substantial experience.Salary range of $74,000 to $85,000 + super for this full-time position, 38 hours per week.Task and Responsibilities:Reporting to the Microbiology Laboratory Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the process of receiving, registering and processing of samples into the required laboratory for analysis. The incumbent will be involved in mentoring, training and developing/up-skilling and safety of Sample Registration employees.Coordinating and overseeing 1-6 team members activities such as scheduling and delegating Sample Registration activities and meeting the goals set for ongoing projects.Mentoring, training and developing/up-skilling of Sample Registration employees.Overseeing the accurate registration of samples and ensuring prompt delivery of samples to the laboratory for analysis.Building sustainable relationships and trust with customers and other stakeholders through open and interactive communication.Working closely with Customer Care and Laboratory Operations to ensure that customer queries are resolved in a timely and professional manner.Ensuring team member's adherence to relevant SOPs and Work Instructions, including the storage of samples to preserve sample integrity and prevent contamination. Implementing and improving Good Hygiene Practices (GHP) and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).Overseeing receiving and processing samples received from clients.Overseeing and inspecting samples to ensure they are of suitable condition to meet client testing requirements including verifying and recording that the samples are within the required temperature range.Checking work orders against submission sheets to ensure accuracy of information such as test codes and specifications.Storing shelf-stable samples and samples requiring refrigeration or freezing to preserve sample integrity and prevent contamination or cross-contamination and deterioration of the samples.Overseeing logging samples into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) in accordance with the client submission sheet to ensure accurate data transfer and status of samples from the point of reception.Overseeing printing and attaching barcode labels to logged samples to ensure easy identification by the laboratory team in accordance with the submission sheet for analysis.Ensuring that samples are of suitable condition to meet client testing requirements. Reporting unsatisfactory samples, including defects to the Customer Care Team and Laboratory Manager.Coordinating packing, dispatch and receipt of freight and ensuring that freight is dispatched to other testing locations/clients in a timely manner.Booking couriers as requested by clients for delivery of samples and/or supplies to meet their external testing needs.Packing and shipping supplies requested by clients for their testing needs, as directed by the Customer Care, Sales and Marketing teams.Performing duties up to and including the tasks in previous classifications that the incumbent is trained and competent in undertaking, as required.Identify and report deviations from the company quality system and liaise with the Quality department to ensure service quality issues are resolved.Identify improvements and collaborate with the Customer Care Team and other internal departments to implement the necessary changes.Assist in developing/implementing new processes and strategies which improve productivity and efficiency in the Sample Registration department.Fostering a safe work environment by leading a strong safety culture, promoting safe work practices, controlling environmental conditions and taking prompt action in the event of incidents or injuries.Managing projects by planning, designing and conducting experimentsSupervising and overseeing shelf-life testing, validating new product formulations, migration testing, organoleptic assessments and examining chemical composition to ensure FSANZ standards are met.Preparation of laboratory reports.Collaborating with food manufacturers to develop Environmental Monitoring Plans (EMPs) and implement corrective actions to ensure quality control measures are in place for various swabbing methods including the use of an air sampler to monitor the safety and hygiene of food production environment.Ordering and maintaining stock inventory required for Sample Registration and assist with the general upkeep and maintenance of the laboratory.Qualifications:Minimum of Bachelor level qualification in a Laboratory, Scientific or Administration or equivalent industry substantial experience related to food technology.Experience:A minimum of 2 years' full-time experience within a scientific or technical service-based organisation.Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office suite and Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).Strong time management skills and experience with time-critical data entry.Ability to accurately interpret and transcribe information from a client submission sheet into the laboratory computer system.Demonstrated troubleshooting skills to diagnose and resolve problems.Excellent analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills.Ability to prioritise competing demands, plan and manage your teams daily work schedule including your own and manage contingencies.Proven experience coordinating/supervising a small team within a laboratory environment and leading a team to achieve results.Ability to work in a high-pressure team environment with a positive 'can-do' attitude with a calm and diplomatic approach.Quality-focused with exceptional attention to detail, communication, customer service skills and interpersonal/coaching skills.Demonstrated confidence in innovating and offering new ideas for improvement.Strong knowledge of NATA (ISO 17025) and TGA (PIC/S GMP) requirements, as well as working to GLP and GMP standards.About us:Mérieux NutriSciences is a global leader and trusted partner of Institute Mérieux, aspiring to improve health through better nutrition and safer food.
