Chandler Macleod is seeking a Freedom of Information Team Leader to join our state government client based in Melbourne CBD for a full time 6 month temporary contract.
This role will be based 3 days in office and 2 days from home.
Reporting to the Manager of the FOI Unit, this role provides a unique opportunity to lead and support a dedicated team while ensuring compliance with statutory obligations and promoting transparency.
As a Team Leader, you will be responsible for: Manage and process complex FOI requests under the FOI Act, including reviewing and releasing documents.
Provide expert leadership, guidance, and mentorship to the FOI Unit team members.
Prepare high-quality advice and recommendations for senior departmental officers on FOI-related matters.
Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to promote the timely and appropriate release of documents.
Handle FOI-related reviews and complaints before the Victorian Information Commissioner and appeals before the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal.
Operate autonomously and with accountability, delivering outcomes within strategic and legislative frameworks.
Ensure efficient time and resource management to meet competing deadlines and priorities effectively.
To be suitable for this role you will have: Minimum 5 years experience as a FOI officer A thorough understanding of the FOI Act and demonstrated experience processing complex FOI requests.
Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop a team in a fast-paced environment.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
Strong analytical and decision-making skills in FOI and legislative contexts.
Exceptional organizational skills to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality results.
Ability to work with autonomy, accountability, and agility in a complex regulatory environment.
