About the roleAre you a skilled Food Technology Technician looking for a rewarding part-time role?
Cornish College is seeking an experienced Food Technology Technician to join their dedicated team.
In this role, you will play a crucial part in supporting the delivery of the Food Technology curriculum and ensuring a safe and well-equipped learning environment for students.What you'll be doingClassroom Support:Assist the Food Technology teacher in setting up and organising the kitchen for practical classes,ensuring ingredients and equipment are available for each classSupport students during hands-on cooking sessions, providing guidance on techniques and ensuring adherence to safety and hygiene protocols in line with the teacher's expectationsEnsure the appropriate cleanup after each practical class, taking responsibility for related-laundry dutiesEquipment Maintenance:Maintain and clean kitchen equipment, utensils, and workspaces before and after each classReport any malfunctioning equipment to the teacher for prompt repair or replacementEnsure equipment is set-up and available for each classSafety and Hygiene:Enforce and reinforce safety and hygiene practices in the kitchen, emphasising the importance of cleanliness and proper food handlingMonitor students to ensure they follow safety guidelines and intervene when necessaryEnsure appropriate and correct storage of food, including monitoring expiry datesEnsure cleanliness and hygiene in all areas of the Food Technology area including the cool room, demonstrator bench, benches and sink areasMaintain stoves for cleanliness and working orderAdministrative Support:Assist in the collation and purchasing of food ordersSafety Compliance:Conduct regular safety checks and inspections to ensure a secure learning environmentAdditional supportMaintain an accurate inventory of tools, materials, and equipment including the return of equipment to appropriate storage after out of hours functionsAssist in the procurement of new resources/equipment as neededLaundering of tea towels, dishcloths, placemats and other linenOversee stock going to and from the professional laundryWhat we're looking forCommitment to promoting safety and hygiene in a kitchen settingKnowledge of cooking terms and techniques, equivalent weights and measures, etcWell-developed administrative skills, includingadequate use of information and communication technologies (ICT)Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team as well as work autonomously, when required.The ability to develop an understanding of student wellbeing, child safety and of appropriate behaviours when engaging with children, including children with diverse needs and backgrounds (mandatory child safety training is provided)Current Working with Children Check for Employment purposes and Police checkCurrent Food Handler's Certificate, or willingness to obtain suchFirst Aid Qualification or willingness to undertake first aid trainingTo Apply for this PositionInterested applicants are highly recommended to visit the employment page on our website at: about-cornish/employment/To apply for this position, please write a letter to the Principal, Nicola Forrest, outlining your interest in this position and giving us an insight into who you are.Accompanying your letter should be your resume including contact information for three confidential referees and your personal response to the Position Description (preferably as one combined PDF file).Advice to ApplicantsIn your cover letter please outline your qualifications and your main areas of expertise.
