Fixed Term Up to 0.4FTE Staff Specialist - Rehabilitation Medicine - Auburn Hospital | APPLY VIA E-CREDENTIALFixed Term Up to 0.4FTE Staff Specialist Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the above position(s) in the Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD). This position will be located at the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at Auburn Hospital.
The Rehabilitation Unit at Auburn Hospital is a 19-bed unit. Services are provided at Rehabilitation Service Role Delineation Level 4. Features of this role delineation include the provision of rehabilitation services for adult patients with moderately complex rehabilitation needs; inpatient programs are delivered over a minimum of 5 days a week and include daily individual and group therapies, and program or rehabilitation case management.
The 19-bed Rehabilitation Unit provides access to a multi-disciplinary team of experienced clinicians with the shared goal of improving patient functionality and quality of life for adult patients with health conditions related, but not limited, to:
Orthopaedic conditions (fractures, joint replacements)Trauma rehabilitation when all medical and surgical issues are stable and resolved to minimise the need for transfer to and from acute hospital facilities.Reconditioning/restorative needs including early clinical handover of neurosurgery and cardiothoracic patient cohorts from Westmead Hospital.In general terms, patients with a maintenance service category classification should not be managed in the Rehabilitation Unit to optimise bed utilisation.
AMBULATORY CARE: OUTPATIENT SERVICES: Services will be provided across several settings including but not limited to individual and group consultation, gym, common room areas, and virtual care. The service will develop the capability to integrate virtual models with ambulatory team rehabilitation therapy programs. New technology will be incorporated into innovative treatment strategies such as virtual reality (VR), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and wearables. Services include:
Medical RehabilitationSpasticity ClinicMotor Neurone DiseaseThe successful applicant will be appropriately trained and experienced in rehabilitation medicine as a specialist. This includes providing specialist medical expertise for admitted patients and across the range of outpatient clinics including spasticity and Motor Neurone Disease.
Applicants must have Australian Fellowship/Specialist Registration at the time of applying.

Essential Requirements for Appointment Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the Australasian Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award. Must have Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency. Must hold a current NSW Environment Protection Authority license (if applicable).Sound clinical knowledge in Rehabilitation medicine demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position.Clinical experience in treatment of Spasticity and Motor Neurone Disease is desirable.Conditions of appointment are in accordance with the Staff Specialists (State) Award.
