The RoleAs a Fitter Armourer at Joint Proof and Experimental Unit (JPEU), you will be pivotal in providing essential technical support and advice, with a keen focus on armaments. Your responsibilities include executing trade-specific tasks such as turning, welding, and fitting.You will inspect, service, and repair armaments, ensuring operational integrity and safety. Your role involves conducting pre and post-fire checks, performing preventive and periodical maintenance, and utilizing specialized tooling and gauges.A significant part of your job will manage repair and maintenance schedules to align with firing programs. You will be responsible for issuing SG 84 Certificates for Fitness to Fire and ensuring compliance with safety protocols. Additionally, you will contribute to the design of weapon platform modifications and the development of competency records.Your expertise will be crucial in maintaining the highest standards of functionality and safety for all equipment under your purview, making you an integral part of the JPEU operations team.A practical assessment will be conducted for those who are identified for further assessment, and progress to the interview stage.About our TeamThe Workshop Team is critical as they provide the necessary resources for Test and Evaluation activities via static weapon mounted munitions, mobile weapon platforms and ballistic protection trials. The broader team utilise systems such as ballistic tracking radar, high speed video cameras and associated equipment to track the projectiles or capture data when explosive ordnance is dynamically fired or statically tested.The key duties of the position include:Executing trade-specific tasks such as turning, welding, and fitting.Inspecting, servicing, and repairing armaments.Conducting pre and post-fire checks.Performing preventive and periodical maintenance.Utilizing specialized tooling and gauges.Managing repair and maintenance schedules to align with firing programs.Issuing SG 84 Certificates for Fitness to Fire.Ensuring compliance with safety protocols.Contributing to the design of weapon platform modifications.Developing competency records.Our Ideal CandidateThe successful candidate must be able to work on an explosive ordnance Test and Evaluation firing range. They will also be competent in providing support to various teams in the conduct of maintenance and repair of unique test equipment applying mechanical theory to design, repair, calibrate and interpret diagrams and engineering drawings.They will have strong written communication skills and be able to interpret and comply with written instructions. They will also be able to competently work within a Quality Management System and able demonstrate compliance with Work Health Safety Act and Regulations.They will also be able to work independently, as part of a team, or under limited direction within a diverse team in a highly variable environment.The right person for this role will show the flexibility to respond to the changing context and shifting priorities of JPEU, to achieve business outcomes.EligibilitySecurity Clearance:Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at "Baseline Vetting" level.Mandatory Qualifications:This technical position requires the individual to have obtained a recognised Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Level 4 qualification in a relevant technical domain or relevant skills and work experience such that an individual can reasonably achieve a recognised AQF qualification if required by the position.
