As a statutory authority, the Victorian Fisheries Authority (VFA) has the responsibility of managing Victoria's fisheries resources in a coordinated and strategic way to ensure their ongoing sustainability, while supporting the value they deliver to the commercial, recreational, aquaculture and Indigenous fishing sectors. We work with government and stakeholders to optimise the social, cultural and economic benefits of Victoria's fisheries and aquaculture industries, while promoting sustainable and responsible practices. The VFA supports the development of sustainable recreational and commercial fishing and aquaculture activities in Victoria and delivers recreational fishing and boating infrastructure projects and programs. Fisheries Officers report to the Supervising Fisheries Officer as part of a compliance operations team. They are responsible for delivering the full range of Fisheries strategies, programs and services in their operational area and in state-wide operations and projects as required. The Victorian Fisheries Authority (VFA) delivers a fully integrated fisheries compliance program that comprises prevention (community engagement and education), enforcement operations, intelligence collation and targeted investigations. The VFA also contributes to public safety by acting as the control agency for shark hazards and supporting other agencies in the management of emergencies. The position will also provide support and authoritative advice to the Supervising Fisheries Officer.
