As a statutory authority, the Victorian Fisheries Authority (VFA) has the responsibility of managing Victoria's fisheries resources in a coordinated and strategic way to ensure their ongoing sustainability, while supporting the value they deliver to the commercial, recreational, aquaculture and Indigenous fishing sectors. We work with government and stakeholders to optimise the social, cultural and economic benefits of Victoria's fisheries and aquaculture industries, while promoting sustainable and responsible practices. The VFA supports the development of sustainable recreational and commercial fishing and aquaculture activities in Victoria and delivers recreational fishing and boating infrastructure projects and programs. We are committed to getting more people fishing by creating opportunities for people of all abilities to try fishing; to making it safer, cheaper and easier for the boating and fishing communities to get out on the water; and to making local seafood more readily available for everyone to enjoy. Our function is to ensure that the Government, Victorian fishing sector and general community obtain the benefits of careful management to ensure demand can be sustainably supported into the future. This is achieved by matching demand to fish stocking and infrastructure, while providing up to date information on resource condition and supporting regulatory requirements. FISHERIES OFFICER (MULTIPLE ROLES) Salary: $74,580 - $82,571 (Plus Superannuation) 12 months Fixed term Usual hours of work: Full-time (flexibility may be available) Usual work location: Tatura, Bendigo and Swan Hill The Role Three roles designated as female. The filling of this position is intended to constitute a special/equal opportunity measure under section 8(1) of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975 (Cth) and section 12 of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010 (Vic) and section 8(4) of the Charter of Human Rights and Responsibilities Act 2006 (Vic). Fisheries Officers report to the Supervising Fisheries Officer as part of a compliance operations team. They are responsible for delivering the full range of Fisheries strategies, programs and services in their operational area and in state-wide operations and projects as required. The Victorian Fisheries Authority (VFA) delivers a fully integrated fisheries compliance program that comprises prevention (community engagement and education), enforcement operations, intelligence collation and targeted investigations. The VFA also contributes to public safety by acting as the control agency for shark hazards and supporting other agencies in the management of emergencies. The position will also provide support and authoritative advice to the Supervising Fisheries Officer. The Team The VFA is a statutory authority established to facilitate the effective management of Victoria's fisheries resources in a coordinated and strategic way that ensures their ongoing sustainability. The VFA functions to ensure that the Government, the recreational and commercial fishing sectors, and the Victorian community can share in and obtain the benefits from sustainable fisheries management. The VFA has around 190 employees located in the Melbourne CBD, metropolitan Melbourne and across regional Victoria.
