The Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT) is currently seeking applications for a First Nations Liaison Assistant Director (Affirmative Measures – First Nations) on a full-time, ongoing basis.
Please note this is an identified position for an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person only.
The location of this position can be in any of our CBD locations in Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Hobart, Melbourne, Sydney, or Perth.
Remuneration: The annual salary for the position is Executive Level 1 $113,357 - $133,423 p.a. , plus a generous employer superannuation contribution of 15.4%.
About the AAT:
The Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT) plays a crucial role in the Australian legal landscape, providing a process for individuals and organisations to seek an independent review of decisions made under a wide range of Commonwealth laws.
It is an exciting time to join the Tribunal as we transition to a new merits review body on 14 October 2024 to be called the Administrative Review Tribunal. Information about the reform can be found on the Attorney General Department's website.

About the opportunity:
The First Nations Liaison Assistant Director will play a key role in driving the Tribunal's commitment to improving outcomes and service delivery for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, including providing a culturally safe workplace.
This critical role will lead programs and activities and a national team of First Nations Liaison Officers to develop effective partnerships with First Nations communities and their representatives to raise awareness about, and improve access to, Tribunal Services.
You will contribute to cultural awareness initiatives for the Tribunal, including approaches to Closing the Gap initiatives and Reconciliation Action Plan.
About you:
To be successful in this role you will have:
Highly developed cultural competency and a deep understanding of the issues affecting First Nations peoples and communities.
The proven ability to build community engagement and be able to manage relationships in a culturally diverse environment, communicating issues sensitively and effectively to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.
Excellent organisational, project management and planning skills, and an ability to work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple competing priorities at once in tight timeframes.
Well-developed leadership, coaching and mentoring skills and a strong sense of self-awareness, working to foster respect, inclusion, and cultural and psychosocial safety in the workplace.
Strong initiative, a solutions-focused approach and demonstrated innovation and agility to achieve results and provide quality and timely advice.
Qualifications:
Aboriginality is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised under Section 14(d) of the Anti-discrimination Act 1997.
