MuraConnect are pleased to be working with the Games Independent Infrastructure and Coordination Authority (the Authority) to source exceptional talent for a once in a lifetime opportunity. Currently we are in the market for a First Nations Engagement Specialist to join their team.
Our client is responsible for ensuring Queensland, Australia and Oceania are ready to successfully host the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The Authority will deliver new and upgraded venues for use before, during and long after the Olympic Games. They will monitor the delivery of villages and future-proof our livability by bringing forward activities to ensure we can move safely, conveniently and reliably at Games time.

About the Role The First Nations Engagement Specialist will lead and facilitate culturally responsive engagement with Traditional Custodian groups on the design and delivery phases of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic venues. The role will ensure community perspectives, insights and feedback are effectively integrated into venue design to deliver an authentic design outcome representing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices and respects connection to, and preservation of, Country. This role will be positioned within the Venues & Villages team, who are responsible for delivering new and upgraded Games infrastructure venues and supporting the delivery of Athlete Villages. The nature of the work of the Venues and Villages team requires extensive engagement with delivery agencies, games partners, external organisations, and private sector advisors across a wide range of matters relating to the Brisbane 2032 Masterplan, capital planning, infrastructure development, project delivery as well as venue operational matters.
Responsibilities: Lead and support culturally responsive engagement with Traditional Custodians throughout the development, design and construction phases and provide specialist assistance and guidance that ensure Tradition Custodian groups are supported and valued.Build and maintain collaborative, co-operative, and respectful partnerships with Traditional Custodian groups throughout the engagement process ensuring respect and responsiveness towards cultural knowledge.Develop and manage comprehensive engagement and project documentation including but not limited to Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property agreements (ICIPs), Memorandums of Understanding, Cultural Narrative Reports, engagement actions register, evaluation reports and other correspondence.Lead and facilitate engagement meetings and workshops between Traditional Custodian groups, the Delivery Agent/Project Team and the Authority's project representatives including the delivery of engagement materials and presenting feedback and actions from the engagement actions register.Develop and implement monitoring and assurance framework to assess the effectiveness of engagement activities and ensure that feedback is integrated into ongoing project process.Oversee the activities relating to the remuneration payment and reporting mechanisms during the engagement process with Traditional Custodian groups.Collaborate with other stakeholders, including local government partners where they have long-standing relationships with Traditional Custodians, to leverage partnerships to support effective engagement with Traditional Custodian groups.Skills and Experience: The ideal candidate will have the following commercial experience:
Background in built environment, planning and/or design with knowledge and experience of culturally respectful and appropriate design. Project management experience within an infrastructure setting would be highly regarded.Experience engaging with Traditional Custodian groups and a knowledge and demonstrated understanding of historical and contemporary perspectives.Strong understanding and respect of important cultural protocols and practices in relation to engagement with Traditional Custodians.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage, influence and negotiate with stakeholders at all levels.Experience working in an environment of complexity and ambiguity and the ability to be highly responsive in a fast-paced and changing project environment.For more information on this unique opportunity call or email your resume to:
