First Nations Community Engagement OfficerQueensland Human Rights Commission (Organisation site)Queensland Human Rights Commission; CairnsYou will be responsible for assisting the development of and delivering targeted human rights educational materials for First Nations people in Queensland and providing specialist advice to internal and external stakeholders on issues impacting First Nations communities.Queensland Human Rights Commission (QHRC) is an independent statutory authority with responsibilities under the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 and the Human Rights Act 2019.
The Commission provides a range of services to support people in Queensland understand and pursue their rights by providing:an expert dispute resolution service for discrimination and human rights complaintsa statewide enquiry service to help build understanding of rights and responsibilitieseducation and training for businesses, organisations, government and the community.The Commission also actively contributes towards the systemic prevention of discrimination, vilification and sexual harassment through:supporting the development of policy and legislation to better protect rightsincreasing public understanding and discussion of human rights and responsibilitiesproviding guidance, undertaking research and conducting reviews to support duty holders to uphold their responsibilities.As a member of the QHRC team, you will contribute to building an understanding and culture of human rights in Queensland.Your roleReporting to the Yirmba First Nations Unit Manager, the First Nations Community Engagement Officer is responsible for supporting engagement with Queensland's First Nations communities, in accordance with the Commission's First Nations action plan.
You will assist in developing and delivering targeted human rights educational materials for First Nations people in Queensland and provide specialist advice to internal and external stakeholders on issues impacting First Nations communities.Mandatory RequirementsThis role requires travel to various locations and necessitates a current driver's licence.
You may also be required to work outside of office hours.
