Kingswood is a Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden school. Students are introduced to the pleasures of preparing, cooking and eating a variety of foods they have grown in the garden. We even have our own free-range chickens and fresh eggs are collected daily.
Selection CriteriaSC1 Demonstrated experience and skills in nursing to meet the first aid needs of children, staff and visitors in the school.

SC3 High level of communication and interpersonal skills when dealing with students, parents, staff and broader members of the school community.
SC4 Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team in a professional and collaborative manner.
SC5 Hold current nursing qualifications and have a comprehensive knowledge/treatment of Diabetes, Anaphylaxis, Allergies, Asthma and Epilepsy.
RoleRange 3 is distinguished by the introduction of management responsibility and accountability for the delivery of professional support services. The role will usually impact beyond the work area or professional field. It seeks to gain cooperation of other staff members or members of the school community to achieve specific objectives, such as in school administration, operations or educational programs.
Direction on targets and goals is provided but the position will have some degree of latitude in determining how they are achieved. This latitude will generally be limited by standard procedures and school policy. Deviation from standard procedures and school policy will require guidance and direction from senior management.
The provision of business management responsibilities becomes a feature at range 3. Management of staff to achieve the expected outcomes is a key responsibility. Staff management issues will be resolved with minimal reference to senior management, although guidance will be required in more complex cases. Senior management will be provided with timely reports and advice, although this will generally be confined to matters relating to the immediate work area, service provision or educational program and is unlikely to impact substantially on whole of school operations.
This is the minimum range for positions that carry a mandatory qualification requirement of not less than four years. Professional student support positions become a feature at range 3 (e.g. therapists, psychologists) where standard professional services are delivered. Professional support and guidance will be close at hand and deviation from standard procedures and school policy will require guidance and direction from senior management.
An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students, but must not include duties of teaching as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor. Supervision of students cannot be required except where it is an integral part of the employee's position or involves supervision of students individually or in small groups, in controlled circumstances, where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.
ResponsibilitiesThe School Nurse is responsible for the management of the following:
Nursing and First Aid Duties: Attend to medical needs of students, staff and visitors as required.Management of student anaphylaxis and allergy action/health plans.Administer first aid to students for the purpose of providing emergency or necessary care.Be the first point of reference for first aid and other health matters by providing basic first aid assessment of students and staff, including pre camp briefings and student medical management updates, and liaising and providing advice to staff who will be attending camps and other off site activities.Oversee the management and distribution of medications to students.Coordinate and liaise with stakeholders in regards to vaccination programs.Liaise with parents regarding medical and healthcare needs for their child.Consult with parents, college staff and health professionals regarding general student healthcare.Support staff as to the needs of students with chronic recurring illness or disabilities.Conduct anaphylaxis/asthma briefings/trainings and any other medical briefings to staff and parents.Maintain and manage first aid supplies for all areas of the school and safely store and record medications on site.Management of all student Epipens including requesting replacements for any expired Epipens.Collaborate with school staff and appropriate agencies to develop and implement a range of programs and interventions with students and the school community.Provide advice, expertise and leadership in policy development that guides the development of school policy and the work of others.Organise staff first aid training and vaccination program.Implement professional development support programs within the school environment, including training, development and guidance to staff and the school community.School Events: Administer first aid as required for various school activities and events including various sports carnivals.Maintain and provide first aid supplies for all school activities including camps, sports and events.Ensure correct medication accompanies students involved in school activities.Liaise with parents prior to camps regarding medical and healthcare needs for their child.Administration and Compliance: Maintain accurate and detailed case notes.Ensure that current medical forms are completed for students with medical needs.Develop and maintain Student Health Support Plans as required in accordance with DET guidelines.Administration of school policy and procedure guidelines for anaphylaxis, asthma, diabetes, and other medical conditions.Follow DET guidelines and policy.Who May ApplyIndividuals with the aptitude, experience and/or qualifications to fulfill the specific requirements of the position.

Hours of work: 9.00am - 3.30 pm, 5 days a week including 1/2 hour unpaid lunch break. The First Aid Nurse acts as a first point of contact for all first aid enquiries and plays an integral role in the school's front of house impression to the community. The role requires close interaction with a range of staff, students and visitors to the school.
