An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students but must not include duties of a teacher as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor.
ResponsibilitiesThe First Aid/Admin officer is responsible for management of the first aid area, ensuring it is clean, well organised and maintained in accordance with current OHS standards.
Typical duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Attend to and monitor students who become ill during the school day. Notify parents/carers of those students who need to be transported home.Responsible for the assessment and first aid treatment of minor injuries and organising appropriate care with parents to follow up other injuries.Maintain and update documented first aid procedures.Order, store, monitor and administer medication and medical supplies in accordance with the Drugs, Poisons and Controlled Substances legislation.Liaise between staff, students and parents/carers re medical or social issues of concern through direct contact, emails and Compass posts.Responsible for accurate records being kept to ensure the health and safety of students.Appropriate reporting of incidents on Compass and eduSafe Plus according to Department of Education (DE) guidelines.Keep staff informed, when permission is given, of students who require special medical allowances in class.Communicate with parents when health issues arise in the school environment.Liaise with relevant staff before excursions and organize appropriate first aid equipment required for excursions and camps.Ensure all Camp Medical Forms are obtained prior to camps.Liaise with Whitehorse Immunisation Program team to organize and facilitate the tri-annual immunisation programs.Organize the annual staff influenza and DTP vaccinations.Monitor year 7 enrolment forms (Medical Section) to enable the school to anticipate the medical needs of students.Liaise with parents prior to Year 7 Camp to assist with any anxiety concerns.Maintain DE policy on anaphylaxis guidelines in the College.Interview all Anaphylactic students and their parents prior to their commencement at Koonung.Ongoing education of Anaphylactic students to assist them with the adjustment into adult life.Continuous contact with parents of Anaphylactic students regarding EpiPen replacements.Communicate with parents prior to overseas tours to ensure the safe management of their child.Organize staff First Aid/CPR/Asthma/Anaphylaxis training and maintain staff training records.Promote healthy food programs and public health issues through newsletters and assemblies.Supply and monitor first aid bags and equipment around the school according to OHS guidelines.Report any OHS issues that arise from student injuries/accidents.Maintain confidentiality at all times.Who May ApplyIndividuals with the aptitude, experience and/or qualifications to fulfill the specific requirements of the position.
