Financial Controller - Harvey Norman Online Franchisee Job no: 563725 Work type: Full Time Location: Homebush West Categories: Leadership & Management Harvey Norman is one of Australia's most iconic retail brands, and the Harvey Norman Online Franchisee provides the online and digital offering for the Harvey Norman, Domayne and Joyce Mayne brands across Australia.
The Harvey Norman Online Franchisee is the single largest independent Franchisee Business in Australia and the successful candidate will leverage their extensive skills and financial experience to analyse profitability and business performance and identify areas for revenue growth and profitability.
About the role Reporting to the Director of Harvey Norman Online, an independent Harvey Norman Franchisee Business, the Financial Controller will contribute to the success of the Harvey Norman Online Franchisee Business by managing all accounting and financial reporting operations, including transactional functions such as invoicing, payables, and receivables.
As the Financial Controller, you will lead the Finance and Administration teams of the Online Franchisee and liaise with the Accounting Management of the Franchisor to ensure that the financial records and reports of the Online Franchisee are complete, accurate, and comply with relevant accounting standards.
You will provide financial and operational data and accounting guidance to the Leadership Teams to support informed decision-making, assess profitability, and recommend improvements to enhance financial performance.
Responsibilities include: Managing all month-end reporting, including profit & loss, balance sheet reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance.
Preparation of monthly BAS, Payroll Tax returns, and annual FBT return, coordinating with the external accounting/tax service provider to ensure compliance.
Ensuring effective cash flow management and undertaking budgeting, forecasting, and planning activities in partnership with the Director.
Preparation of the annual budget for the Online business, updating forecasts as needed, and analysing actual performance against the budget and revised forecasts, providing explanations for any material discrepancies.
Ensuring the company adheres to all legal and regulatory requirements and maintains appropriate financial record keeping.
Overseeing and managing monthly supplier statements reconciliation.
Reviewing existing contracts to analyse the commercial efficiency and effectiveness of existing vendors and assist in identifying areas for improvement and increased efficiency.
Coordinating with the external payroll processing provider for weekly and monthly employee payroll processing.
Reviewing existing processes and procedures to ensure sound internal controls and identify opportunities to improve efficiencies and controls across the business.
Analysing the profitability of each business unit to assess financial performance, identifying areas for improvement, and recommending changes to grow revenues and enhance profitability.
Providing insightful explanations and analyses to the Leadership Team and Director regarding any anomalies or deviations from expectations.
About you You will have extensive experience in a chartered accounting firm or a medium to large retail commercial organisation, with a minimum of 5 years post CPA or CA qualification experience.
You will have experience in financial processes and accounting transactions of an e-commerce business, along with strong skills in writing financial reports and analytical commentary.
You will also have: Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Experience with Magento, SAP S/4 HANA or SAP ECC is preferred but not essential.
Strong time management skills with the ability to multitask and prioritise tasks effectively.
Acute attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
Finely honed relationship-building and negotiation skills.
Robust analytical, problem-solving, and administration abilities.
Resilience under pressure and the ability to excel in a fast-paced environment.
