Job Title: Financial Accountant Location: Hybrid - Ballarat + Work from Home (WFH) Contract Type: Full-time, Temporary Contract Length: June 2024 - January 2025 Rate: $68.21 - $76.76 per hour + super About the Role
As a Financial Accountant, you will serve as a trusted advisor, fostering active partnerships across the organisation. You will act as an interface between finance and operations, ensuring the delivery of clear and user-friendly financial information. Your role will include high-level financial analysis, strategic advice, and support, as well as driving process improvements.
Key Responsibilities Financial Controls: Ensure effective financial controls that comply with policies, procedures, and legislative requirements. Asset Management: Maintain fixed asset registers, including handling additions, disposals, upgrades, revaluations, and impairments. Audits: Assist with both external and internal audits, creating solutions and implementing mitigations in response to findings and recommendations from the Audit and Risk Committee (ARC). Year-End Processes: Support year-end processes, working with external auditors to deliver a clear and high-quality Annual Report. Taxation: Handle taxation requirements, including preparing the draft annual tax return, liaising with tax specialists and auditors, and adhering to the National Tax Equivalent Regime (NTER). Account Reconciliation: Maintain the account reconciliation schedule, ensuring monthly reconciliations are completed and quality assured. General Ledger Maintenance: Ensure the chart of accounts reflects the business model and oversee the maintenance of the general and subsidiary ledgers. Regulatory Reporting: Prepare the Essential Services Commission (ESC) Regulatory Accounting Statements annually, aligning with the Annual Report and classifications for the 5-year pricing review. Other Reporting Obligations: Meet regulatory reporting obligations to the Department of Treasury and Finance (DTF), the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA), and other state and commonwealth agencies. Policy Development: Develop, implement, and maintain finance-related policies, procedures, and internal controls to adhere to government, legislative, and accounting standards (A-IFRS), ensuring the accuracy of accounting information and safeguarding the Corporation's assets. Qualifications and Experience Tertiary qualification in Business or Accounting, with extensive experience in accounting or finance at a senior level. Membership with either the ICAA or CPA, showcasing technical expertise in financial management and accounting. Demonstrated experience in providing business-focused analysis, strategic advice, and support, with a focus on identifying and driving business improvements. Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and proficiency in various software applications. Experience in the Water Industry or other regulated industries is preferred.
