Purpose
The Finance Officer will play a key role in managing the financial operations of Trellis Data.
This position is responsible for overseeing the monthly payroll process, ensuring compliance, managing accounts payable and receivable, and assisting in financial reporting and analysis.
The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and experience in both payroll processing and general financial duties, ideally in Xero.
Responsibilities
Payroll Management
Ensure accurate and timely processing of monthly payroll for all Australian employees, including calculating wages, bonuses, deductions, and other adjustments.
Keep up-to-date and accurate payroll records, including employee pay, tax deductions, benefits contributions, and any changes in pay rates or allowances.
Ensure compliance with relevant local, state, and federal tax laws, including income tax, social security, superannuation (or other relevant benefits), and other mandatory deductions.
Perform monthly payroll reconciliations to ensure accuracy and resolve any discrepancies.
Prepare and submit payroll-related reports (e.g., tax filings, benefits reports, etc.)
to internal and external stakeholders.
Manage US and global payroll through US or alternative outsourced provider.
Financial Operations and Reporting
Manage and track accounts payable and receivable, ensuring timely payment of invoices and accurate billing.
Perform regular bank reconciliations to ensure financial records align with bank statements.
Assist with posting journal entries, reviewing general ledger accounts, and preparing monthly financial statements.
Monitor and manage expenses, ensuring adherence to budget and policies.
Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and ongoing financial forecasts, providing input on actual vs. projected performance.
Ensure compliance with relevant tax laws and regulations, including the preparation of any required tax returns or filings for the company.
Assist in maintaining internal financial controls and support audits by providing required documentation and addressing audit inquiries.
Other Finance Support Duties
Assist in the preparation of financial reports, variance analysis, and cost tracking to support business decisions.
Support the maintenance and updates of financial software systems to ensure they are up-to-date and efficient.
Work closely with Senior Management, such as HR and operations, to ensure smooth integration of financial processes and adherence to company policies.
Identify opportunities to streamline and improve payroll and financial processes, contributing to overall efficiency.
Required Skills
Minimum of 2 years of experience in payroll processing, finance, or accounting roles, with a solid understanding of financial management principles.
Certificate in bookkeeping, degree qualification in finance or accounting.
CPA or CA is preferred but not essential.
Strong knowledge of Xero.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other office software.
Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
Good communication skills, with the ability to explain complex financial information to non-financial staff.
