The Service is committed to the creation of a society in which every woman:Is safe from violence;Is able to tell her story, have it heard and respected; andReceives a fair and just outcome from legal and social welfare systems.Reporting to the Director, Corporate Services, the Finance Manager will effectively manage the financial activities of WLSQ, provide report and recommendations to the CEO and Board, develop relevant frameworks and manuals, ensure compliance with organisational policies and procedures and legislative requirements and audit checks.They will support the CEO and Leadership Team to achieve targets and have useful information for decision making. The position will also be responsible for identifying and implementing systems and potential streamlining for a growing organisation and changing governance standards.This position provides key support and advice to Practice Directors to manage core organisational activity. It performs an internal consulting role to strengthen financial management and literacy.The position supports sound financial management and reporting across diverse funding contracts and fundraising activity, including tender submissions and stakeholder reporting.ABOUT THIS ROLEKey Responsibilities:Management of all financial operations and accounting activities of WLSQ, as well as budget development and management accounting activities to ensure it is fit for purposeProduce year-end financial accounts - liaising with WLSQ auditors, producing statutory accounts and lodging of returns.Produce annual organisational budgets and program budgets, monthly management accounts and ad-hoc reports as required, effective accounts payable/receivable, payroll managementEnsure transparency of funding contracts and internal reporting to support effective workforce mapping, resource allocation in a simplified wayReview, update and implement existing internal accounting systems and introduce new systems and controls where appropriateMaintain computerised accounting software, ensuring the provision of adequate third-party support for the software and upgrading the software where appropriateMonitor and report on expenditure and where appropriate make recommendations to teams and projects for budgetsPrepare financial reports for relevant funders in a timely mannerManage all WLSQ bank accounts including credit cards, ensuring adequate funds are available to meet planned expenditure and surplus funds are earning a reasonable rate of return, liaising on a regular basis with banking institutionsReview the organisation's insurance arrangements (policies and brokers) for sufficiency of coverage and supporting administration in respect of claims/reportingMaintain all statutory records and lodge all statutory returns for company in line with standardsPrepare and present high-level reports to the Leadership Team and Board to ensure a sound financial picture and insightsProvide guidance to Leadership Team on maintaining and developing their budgets for key program/service areas and identifying improvement opportunities with respect to service delivery efficienciesEnsure quality standards and frameworks are adhered to and identify opportunities to improve or streamline systems and processesManage staff, providing performance feedback, supporting professional development opportunities, building capacity and working collaboratively with all WLSQ staffCoordinate all reporting and audit requirements to ensure ongoing compliance and continuation of servicesWork in a healthy and safe manner and encourage others to do the same in line with WLSQ policies and processes.Other duties as may be required from time to time.Skills and Capabilities:At least 7 years' accountancy experience within a financial management role, preferably in the not for profit sectorExperience in preparing budgets, management accounts and end of year financial accountsExtensive experience and a thorough working knowledge of computerised accounting systems and spreadsheetsExperience in undertaking a range of audits, both financial and programmaticExperience and commitment to working collaboratively with team members to enhance the organisationAn effective leader-manager to grow team members skills and competenceExcellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder management internally and externally.
