The research team is seeking a full-time (38 hours per week) Farm Operations Assistant to join our team in a permanent position at our Leigh Creek Research Farm, located just outside Ballarat, Victoria.
As a key member of our research team, you will play a vital role in supporting our plant breeding programs.
Your responsibilities will include:
Farm Equipment Operation: Operating a range of farming equipment for cultivation, sowing, and spraying. Research Support: Providing practical assistance to our Research Operations Manager and other researchers in the preparation and maintenance of plant trials and sites. Equipment Maintenance: Ensuring all farm equipment is in optimal condition by undertaking routine maintenance, organizing major services, and promptly addressing equipment issues. General Farm Maintenance: Maintaining fencing, ensuring the research farm, sheds, and workshops are clean, tidy, and compliant with OH&S regulations. Data Management: Accurately recording data for spraying, plot weights, fertilization, and irrigation activities. To be successful in this role, the ideal experience is below: Practical experience in farm operations and equipment. Awareness and appreciation for the seasonal requirements of a working farm. Willingness to uplift hours when necessary - harvest and planting seasons. A strong attention to detail and accuracy. The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
